No it's because it was 100 million records of pretty valuable data.

I wonder if they'll offer identity protection with a criminal company like Sony did

Well they are dealing with it in relation to consumers in a more competant way than Sony, around a week, at this point with Sony they were getting "specialists" (likley lawyers) in and getting and informing law enforcement bodies. Had this been sony we would have another month or so to go before consumers are properly informed.

Hacking will happen with poor security especially, that part is bad enough, but the major issue and the one so hotly debated, in a way you can never see, is the reasons leading to the hack and how it is dealt with after that make it a hot topic. Sony botched it fromt he get go and so was a major deal, if SquareEnix and codemasters make equally big screw ups (and lets face it given they have the mother of all screwed up ways to deal with sort of thing as a recent guide, they should be able to work out what not to do), then they will be getting the same ridicule and negative press Sony have got.

Yes these things happen all the time but they go unoticed by most as they are dealt with well and damage kept to a minimum, so little negative press reports. Sony onthe other hand royaly screwed up the whole affair, hence such a big deal made of it, then continue to get hacked even after best part of 2 months to get network proffesionals instead of lawyers to lock down thier netowrks.

    My gaming systems -
    Consoles - Wii, Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Jtag Jasper 2TB 3.5" HDD, PS3 60GB UK launch version, PS3 hacked with 500GB 3.5" HDD (2TB wouldn't work ).

    PC - i7 3930K @4.6GHZ, Asus Rampage IV Extreme, 2xRadeon 7970, 32GB DDR3, 4TB Raid HDD (4X Samsung Spinpoint F3, SSD boot drive OCZ Vertex 3 120GB )

These are gaming systems I am biased towards (may as well throw in everything from last gen and before as if the PC can emulate it I am likley to have it)
