Exclamation PS Vita Discounted in Japan

On the heels of couple of weeks of bad sales, retailers have taken action to move more units from their shelfs!

Since Sony has not decided this early to call 'PS Vita' launch in Japan a failure, the retailers stuck with tons of stock on their shelfs, have decided it is time to act, and most have slash prices!

We all have read the many news items on how bad the 'sales' of the PS Vita has been, and how it is even not doing as well as the 3DS is, plus when you look at the figures you see only the 'WiFi' units are moving, with the 3G ones barely even being looked at, so retailers have decided it is time to remove these dusty boxes from their stove shelfs and have slash prices by up to 20% on the '3G PS Vita' systems.

Of course, this doesn't mean the price point of Vita will be reduced ahead of its worldwide launch in February.

But with one of its main competitors, 3DS, experiencing its best sales yet (482k in one week), American and European retailers may take a similar decision to reduce the price.

Cutting price so early, that is really admitting failure! That really does not look good, just launched, in Japan, the motherland, and slashing prices...

Holy Crap! When I saw the title, I originally read:

    "PS Vita Discontinued in Japan"

    Almost wet my pants.

Discounts are great, but I don't think the price is really what was keeping people from buying it.

Sales might pick up next holiday season or they may not.

Consumer confidence is a strange beast.

I have a theory about why the 3G model sold so poorly even though you could get one dirt cheap with a contract, I suspect people might be a bit worried that Sony's security is second rate and when you combine a cell phone and credit card information it could lead to trouble.

S0NY could probably push more Units into the Market if they just forgo the "We know what's best for you**™" DRM restrictions that they seem to love so much lately. Really whats the point of locking the Vita to just the One User, and the Memory Card to just the One Vita Device?

It's sh*t like this that is keeping me off the Vita (and likely any other S0NY Device for that matter!), rather then lets say the price. It's not like the Original PSP was much cheaper when it came out back in what was it? 2005?! IIRC (i.e. European release). At least back then S0NY were coming off the PS2, which was arguably One of the best, if not the best Console ever made. And I had to get the XBOX instead. Not that I have truly regretted it that much though.

But, this is why I think you'll find the Vita is floundering like beached Fish. A soon to be dead Fish, that is...
