Exclamation Sony estimates a 5 to 10 years life for Playstation Vita

Guy Langworth gives us what Sony is expecting from the new handheld.

Sony: We'll support Vita for five to ten years. We really want to establish this as the number one handheld console in the world

God news for PS Vita actual and future owners. Guy Langworth from Sony, has commented in a recent Gametrailer's interview that they are planning to support Vita for at least 5 to 10 years and want the console to become the "Number #1 Handheld in the World"!

That is only go to happen if Sony manages the situation right and better than Nintendo does with its 3DS. We'll see.

    According to Develop:

Sony sees Vita as a five-to-ten year platform and is bullish on its potential for success, the console giant’s SVP of brand marketing has said.

Speaking to GameTrailers, Guy Langworth said that Sony was looking to establish the PS Vita as “the number one handheld console in the world”.

He added however that it would take two to three years to judge whether the platform had been a success or failure.

"If you listen to gamers, if you listen to the response people have had, who've actually got their hands on this thing, it's just been a tremendous response, way ahead of our expectations actually," said Langworth.

Our customers and our third parties are also very excited about this. We see this as a five-to-ten year platform, so we'll judge the success of this in 12, 24 to 36 months. We expect to have a great launch, but it's really in 12 or 24 months we'll know how successful it has been.

“We really want to establish this as the number one handheld console in the world, we think it’s the most insane console you can get your hands on, we think it’s the greatest console, so that’s what we’re aiming to deliver."

The PS Vita is due to launch in Europe and North America on Wednesday, after struggling to make an impact and compete with Nintendo’s 3DS since its December release.

    Why not?

The PSP held up pretty well, even now many games are comparable to the 3DS (GFX wise).

With Quad-Core CPU/GPU the Vita will deliver!

    ALL CONSOLES RULE!!

in 5 years most cellphones will have more power (and possibly controls), in 10 years whatever follows the 3ds will already be overtaking the vita lifetime sales.

they MIGHT get away with it on ps3 (but most likely wont have the balls to try it) but on a handheld there is no chance in hell.

i think the vita could easily do the 5+ years, it has nice specs, as long as it keeps getting the games sony systems get then it will do no problem.

i cant see the 3ds going for 5+ years with its specs and lack of games.

It will easily last longer than 5 years. The PSP is 7 years old now (older in Japan).
The phones will be more powerful, of course, but Vita will have better games.

And after that, Sony will make the PSP3 which is a phone

Do you actually believe the crap you write? I just walked into game store where I see an entire 3ds section with RPGs,fps, action games racing games in fact most genres of games, plus I just checked the Nintendo store where by I found even more games!!! Shock horror the psp vita currently only has how many on order the same or less than Nintendo's developers have already released! Dude come on we all know where the vita is going because it has one of the most unfortunate company's in the world trying to back it, look how long the ds lasted even as far back as the gba look how long that lasted, the ds even survived the late launch of the psp, once the console is hacked Sony gives up with it.
