Exclamation Android piracy rate is 'the worst' according to Football Manager dev

    9:1 piracy rate

According to Sports Interactive, studio who made the Android version of Football Manager, the piracy levels on there 'are the worst' they've ever seen!

Football Manager Handheld is a Soccer management simulation game for mobile devices published by SEGA. Sports Interactive was in charge of it, including the Android version. According to their boss, Miles Jacobson, the piracy rate in there is the worst he has ever seen in his career in games.

The Android version was released two weeks ago and has so far suffered a piracy rate of 9:1. The game typically suffers a 5:1 piracy rate.

"There’s no working copy protection on the platform currently, so it's pretty easy for someone to get it working," Sports Interactive boss Miles Jacobson told Eurogamer.

"The platform is also very popular in some countries where there's a larger piracy problem than in others."
Looks like the studio doesn't like Android at all:

"It hasn't hit the targets we require as yet," he added. "I'm still confident it will do over time, but it's really disappointing that there are so many people out there who love our work, and spend countless hours being entertained by it, but don't think we deserve to get paid for that entertainment.

"If it doesn't hit targets, then we won't be doing another one for the platform - that's a simple business decision though for a couple of months' time.

"We certainly hope to continue to support it - there are still lots of honest people out there who want games on their platform of choice, and we want to be able to provide that to them. So hopefully we still can!"
Pretty bad luck for them! Do you think the same rate applies to all the games in there?

Not a fan of these sorts of games, and I don't really want to believe that piracy is so rampant on android... and to be honest I don't. If he can tell me how he's getting these numbers I might be more inclined to believe that the reason why it's not selling well is because of piracy, as opposed to people not giving a crap.

As far as protection, just ask gameloft... bumbling idiots they are. I get a "invalid liscence" 2 - 3 times I start one of their games. Only reason I don't complain about it more is cause I bought most of them @ $0.99, still after pissing me off like that I don't buy any of their games, heck don't even download the free ones.

but, but, but, i thought that used games were far worse than piracy?

at least until the greedy bastards kill that market then it'll be piracy again.

we now know the Xbox One's game licensing policy was written from the ground up for companies. It's aggressively anti-consumer and anti-middle class, and it outright ignores underprivileged gamers. It's gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly and out of touch with a growing global resentment for corporations. - Polygon 7th June 2013
