Exclamation Tribes: Ascend will not arrive to Xbox 360 and PS3

    Bad news for console users

The Free to play game Tribes: Ascend won't be released on consoles.

Bad news for all the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 users, as there are no plans for Tribes: Ascend on consoles, according to the developer.

Todd Harris, Hi-Rez boss, explored the possibility of putting the F2P game on consoles, but the game's business model prevented it from doing so.

    According to Harris:

"We do not have any plans for Tribes on console at this time. The way it went is that we wanted to do the free-to-play model, and there wasn't a clear path to that on consoles early on. Based on that, we optimized the game around the strengths of the PC, and specifically a keyboard and mouse control."

"Once we decided it'd only be on the PC, we optimized around speed, a quick turn radius, and PC game controls. We're still interested in free-to-play on consoles, but at this point, we have nothing specific to Tribes on console."
Tribes: Ascend was launched last month and the servers are "very, very active" with over 800.000 registered accounts.

    Harris added:

"It's really our belief that for an online multiplayer game, particularly, free-to-play is the best model for gamers and for studios."

Aye, if it had been on the 360 and PS3, it wouldn't be free anyway as MS and Sony would want a paying for it to use XBL and PSN, and thats before they take their cut of the online transactions. Throw in that the game would have to be dumbed down with bigger hit boxes and the like to accomodate console players and it would, as has happened with many other FPS, make them get old quick as little skill is involved (some will claim so and so champion used a pad v PC KB/Mouse players, but they ignore that the targetting boxes on most multiformat games are one size fits all, as in the PC versions of the games have the same big hit boxes in most cases). I used to enjoy FPS before the console overkill and joypad "optimisation", it's not an elitist view tho, it's just that I find it more fun to actually hit a target to get a result, rather than, even with the aides turned off, being able to still get head shots on what should be a pretty clear miss.
    My gaming systems -
    Consoles - Wii, Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Jtag Jasper 2TB 3.5" HDD, PS3 60GB UK launch version, PS3 hacked with 500GB 3.5" HDD (2TB wouldn't work ).

    PC - i7 3930K @4.6GHZ, Asus Rampage IV Extreme, 2xRadeon 7970, 32GB DDR3, 4TB Raid HDD (4X Samsung Spinpoint F3, SSD boot drive OCZ Vertex 3 120GB )

These are gaming systems I am biased towards (may as well throw in everything from last gen and before as if the PC can emulate it I am likley to have it)
