Exclamation GameStop will start selling Steam vouchers

First step of digital distribution world-domination

Gamestop's brick & mortar stores are going to sell Steam Voucher codes starting on May 15th

It seems that retailer Gamestop is going to start selling Steam's voucher codes of different values.

    According to Kotaku:

A GameStop source has told Kotaku that, given the relative failure of the company's push into online PC sales via its purchase of Impulse, it's now trying something a little more practical. Namely, selling Steam vouchers in its bricks-and-mortar stores.

The vouchers will apparently go on sale on May 15, and are reportedly a "kind of a sensitive issue" between GameStop and Valve owing to the fact it's an awkward way for either party to be making money.
As you see, this is a big step ahead of digital distribution over the physical games.

[My links are not selling counterfeit products, and link to a genuine lawfirm, if people can make use of it, more the better. I have never spammed or flooded my posts with my "message". NEVER a single time. With all due respect, I hope you realise it takes all kinds to make this community. Some of us are schoolkids who link to manga websites, others have our own businesses who may link to it. Not all fingers are the same, and not everyone spams. Sincerely].

I bet this is gonna be more expensive than buying directly using VISA.

Xbox 360 points is way cheaper if you buy it with VISA, than buying it in a store.
Wanna know why so many buggy games never gets fixed on Xbox 360 and Windows Phone?

Microsoft charges 40.000$ each time a Indie dev submits a patch.

Microsoft...They are as Indie friendly as my Ass.

Wii U in short: Free online, frequently Free "On Disk DLC" and no online passes.

    how? a $50 card costs $50, $50 credit on a visa costs $50.

we now know the Xbox One's game licensing policy was written from the ground up for companies. It's aggressively anti-consumer and anti-middle class, and it outright ignores underprivileged gamers. It's gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly and out of touch with a growing global resentment for corporations. - Polygon 7th June 2013

gamestop knows that the future is gonna be digital distribution. If the card cost $50 and is actually worth $50 then i don't see gamestop making money. My assumption is that gamestop has to be marking them up. The $50 card is probably worth a real $35-40. how else is noobstop gonna make money. There is no point in going to game stop just to pick up a steam card when you can just buy the game online. I suppose its good for kids that don't have credit/debit cards.
I personally don't like digital distribution. I much prefer having a legit physical media with a nice instruction book and box then a digital copy that is the same as a pirated copy. for things like phones and tablets digital disruption is good. but for consoles i like the way its been.

Probably different in USA then. Here its alot more expensive to buy point cards in a store, than using VISA to buy them.

The thing is that there is no standard for how much 1000 points is valued, so they can charge anything they want in a store and trick newbies.
