Also, SEGA will be publishing the game...
The first details on Ron Gilbert’s Double Fine game, The Cave, have come to light. It's a platform-adventure game with concepts from his earlier 1987 game, Maniac Mansion.
The Cave is the upcoming platform-adventure game by Ron Gilbert, developed by Double Fine and published by SEGA.
This one takes place... well, inside a cave, and the environment will represent the darkness found in each character, which are seven in total: the adventurer, a hillbilly, a knight, the monk, the time-traveler, the scientist, and twins.
According to devs and SEGA:
"The Cave" will be released for consoles and PC via digital download in early 2013.The publisher says that it’s “an adventure game so odd and compelling that it can only be described as odd and compelling”.
“As Sega continues to expand our digital gaming catalogue, we’ve put a lot of effort into finding truly original experiences we can help bring to life,” SEGA’s senior VP of digital business Haruki Satomi stated.
“Both Ron and the team at Double Fine are experienced and deeply creative, and we value the chance to work with them on The Cave.”
Ron Gilbert himself added: “The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game.
“I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”
