'A NES Record'
Jon Black (aka Fort Atlantic) released a limited-edition version of his new album on Nintendo cartridges. Sold out by now...
Looks like rock musician Jon Black, was looking for a creative way to get people, and decided to package his new release on Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges!
Well, Black’s label, Dualtone, has already sold its initial run of 50 NES cartridge versions of the self-titled album and only plans to sell 25 more at $25 a pop (sadly, sold out by now, too). The rocker, who performs as Fort Atlantic, took the idea to his label expecting to get rejected. “I get a lot of my ideas shot down,” Black said. But the suits went with it.
“It was born out of more of an idea to get it out to people in a creative way,” Black told Wired. “Then we decided, ‘I think people might be interested in buying this, it’s a unique thing.’”
If you don't know, the NES version of the album, contains a flash drive with the full Fort Atlantic album in lossless audio and MP3 as well as a bonus EP and videos.Seventy of the cartridges will be the standard gray variety; five lucky buyers will get what Black calls “golden ticket” copies, which will be made with golden cartridges like those used in the early releases of The Legend of Zelda.
Neat! Check out the official Black’s Fort Atlantic album website and the video below for more info! The lucky recipients of the golden cartridges, Black said, will also win tickets to any Fort Atlantic show they like (presumably the gig closest to their hometown), a T-shirt and a mixtape made especially for the golden cartridge recipients.
