Microsoft: XBOX 360 sales hit 67 million, Kinect on 19 million

The company has confirmed that they have sold 67 million Xbox 360 consoles since its launch in 2005. How many do you think broke?

That's right, according to Microsoft, they've sold 67 million Xbox 360 consoles since its launch in 2005 and have accounted "47 percent share of the current-generation console market".

Despite heavy criticism over a lack of quality games, Kinect has also done well, with 19 million sold, which MS says has been a success for Xbox. 360 has generated more than $56 billion at retail for the company, it said, but it isn't done yet.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's Chief Marketing Officer for its Interactive Entertainment Division, talks about the many successes of the Xbox 360.

Mehdi is particularly excited about the future potential of the console, discussing how, "in the last year, the Xbox has transcended from a gaming console to a broad entertainment device inclusive of movies, TV, music and sports." He goes on to discuss how much time people spend with their 360, pointing out how Xbox Live subscribers spend 84 hours per month with the system on average. For comparison, Mehdi asserts, "the average American watches a little more than 150 hours of TV in the same period."

He says the firm has big plans for Xbox as an entertainment hub and with Windows 8 integration.

"With the launch of Windows 8, we'll bring Xbox entertainment to everyone. With Xbox on Windows 8 devices, we rapidly accelerate the reach of Xbox entertainment from more than 60 million people to hundreds of millions of people worldwide," he said.

"We've got ideas for making all the entertainment you love more personal, interactive and social across the devices you love-and on the phenomenal Windows 8 devices that are to come.

"You'll see the first of that next week at E3 where we will showcase the very best of Xbox. We'll unveil new games, show new ways to enjoy the entertainment you love and, as always, we'll have a few surprises to share."

So, let's wait for those 'surprises' this Monday!

so they are forgetting the wii has crushed them and admitting that they are now dead last in this current gen by saying that even in competition with only the ps3 they have in fact been overtaken as the ps3 must by the very nature of their stats have 53%.

Microsoft is referring to 47% of the whole market of "current-gen consoles", meaning the Wii, Ps3 and Xbox 360. And by current gen market is all revenue, their bringing in 47% of the revenue that current gen consoles are bringing in, has as much to do with selling console as with selling games and accessories.

firstly, since when has a generation been about its supposed "power" fact is wii, 360 and ps3 are the current generation but ms cant use those figures without showing how badly they have done, even by using the 47% as i said they are now admitting to being dead last this gen which given all the mistakes sony have made is a truly incredible position, to loose such a lead over the ps3 especially given the number of 360 owners who have had to repurchase replacement systems.

what do you guys do with your machines, my launch 3.15fw pos3 still works fine (although little used), my launch 360 needed a replacement drive and my elite fried its hdmi, my wii has taken a beating from heavy use and hasnt missed a heartbeat.

My Wii modded with Wiikey sits gathering dust for over a year, Wii homebrew kicks ass but not HD so it never sees the light of day. My Ps3 with Kmeaw 3.55 sits gathering dust ever since the bluray drive bit the dust and Ps3 homebrew isn't very good at all except for multiman and showtime. I own 4 Xbox 360s, One jtag bit the dust (no power at all, prob a pooched mosfet), I have a working Jtagged Zephyr, 2 RGH Falcons, and a Trinity for Xbox Live and about 4 more RROD that I will get around to reballing one of these days.

maybe you should have invested $30 for the 1080p upscale adapter and then got a bit more use out of your wii

this isn't news. it's just some PR statement from M$.
Everyone knows the 360 is selling less than ever and has been outsold by the PS3 for several years now.

The most important fact for me is my 360 gets about 85-90% of my total game love. With Diablo 3's release, my PC gets what is left.

I've conceded there's no way to get motion gaming to make a speedy exit from our gaming world. With that, Kinect is great hardware and I wish MS would streamline how many Kinect games Vs. quality of Kinect games get pushed out. There isn't much there to use Kinect with and people b1tch. But, that's a good thing. Those who don't want motion controls to be the norm should be happy all titles haven't migrated to some form of Kinect useage. Kinect should be a handful of quality titles each year not a vast quantity of shovelware MS.

Stats can be manipulated any way to pursuade. Let's take the actual number of how many people purchased Wii's and how many actually still play them. Lots sold and lots collecting dust I'd bet.

Last I checked, Sony hasn't had any "our Games division is not in the red anymore" headlines on MC or anywhere else for that matter. If anyone needs the next gen, it is Sony. Wipe that slate clean and go back to to what you were doing right last gen.

There's a lot of work to be done from all three as far as I'm concerned.

id be in the same boat but i dont like the 360 hasnt been touched since i replaced my launch console (RROD) with a slim and played fable 3 for 3 minutes as it was to boring
