    Exclamation Pre-E3 'Nintendo Direct' complete Summary

    Wii U Game Pad, Wii U Pro Controller and Miiverse shown...

    Satoru Iwata shared a few new functionalities for the upcoming Wii U console, including its Game Pad and other Online features.

    If you missed the Pre-E3 'Nintendo Direct' presented by Satoru Iwata, here's a brief summary of all the "important" things shown:

    * Wii U Game Pad

    The tablet controller has been named the Wii U Game Pad and has, as rumoured, two analog sticks rather than the circle pads shown at previous events. The two analog controls feature under-stick buttons, like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, upping the total number of inputs.

    * Wii U Pro Controller

    All forms of Wii controllers, as well as the Wii Fit balance board, are compatible with Wii U. A Wii U Pro controller will be released for ‘more intense’ forms of gaming, such as longer periods of play or for multiplatform games. Also, you will be able to use your Wii U Gamepad to control the television using the controller’s “TV” button.

    * MiiVerse and the human connection

    A video was played showing off the system’s network capabilities – the Miiverse. It featured a frustrated gamer struggling to take down a zombie boss. To get help, he first posted a message (and his mood) on the network asking for help, leading to a call from his friend who saw the message from his cell phone. After his help was ineffective, he video-chatted his grandfather for assistance, who was able to solve his problem. A Black Wii U console and controller were used during the clip.

    You’ll see the Miiverse each time your start up your Wii U.

    * System Browser

    Nintendo also briefly showed off the system’s browser, which allows you to surf internet content on your Wii U Gamepad, and send certain elements to the television. A video for example, can be found first on the controller, and then sent to the TV for all to see. You can even add effects like a curtain pullback.

    Iwata also said that they will Focus on the Wii U at their upcoming E3 press conference, with news about 3DS to be shown "on other opportunities".

    i'm sure the ability to add the curtain to make web browsing not visible on the main screen will have a few uses but itts primary unstated use is to hide porn from anyone channel surfing on the main screen

    the idea of a black console is good too although i suspect like the wii it will launch in white only.

    Not liking the Miiverse! If thats the start up screen, its very cluttered indeed. I'm hoping its an app just like the Wii and the 3DS's version. But other than that the controller pro, and the pad look great, and i like the phone app too. I really hope that was just a tease to what the Wii U can do, as it asnt shown me enough yet.

    I like the Pro Controller since it looks very similar to the 360 gamepad. That is a plus as far as I'm concerned. Other than that, there isn't much that interests me with the Wii U. It will be the last of the 3 next gen consoles I buy and I'm in no hurry to pick up the other two next gen offererings.

    will this pro pad be compatible for all its games, not a small handfull, if so then as long as nintendo arent only just getting great (last gen) ported games (which i wont buy what i already own/compleated) that the wii u will also offer great games the other systems dont get (not mario/zelda recycle ware, im talking about games like Gears of War, Uncharted etc) then ill buy the wii u.

    but if it fails all the above then its just another typical nintendo system to me that will bore me and end up collecting dust.

    as far as i know its optional so up to individual programmers if they want to support it however i can see some companies who are lazy / greedy from using the screen as nothing more than a map then allowing the use of pad or pro controls so you could put the pad down and just hold the pro.

    btw the chances of seeing gears or uncharted on the wii u are about the same as you seeing metroid or the proper smash bros on 360 or ps3, they are called "platform exclusives" for a reason.
