Exclamation Sony: 'Second screen Vita functionality will play key role'

According to SCEE chief Jim Ryan.

Looks like they also have 'big' plans to allow PS3 owners to use the PS Vita as a second screen when playing PS3 games.

In an interview with SCEE chief Jim Ryan at this year E3, the PS Vita second-screen functionality -just like the one shown by Microsoft with SmartGlass and by Nintendo with its Wii U GamePad- is still a key a initiative for the PlayStation business going forward.

"One of our main strategies is this broadening of the PlayStation ecosystem - whether it's the use of Vita in some sort of second screen capacity or whether it's like the announcements yesterday of PlayStation Mobile," he said.

"We think that ubiquitous access to content is something that consumers are expecting and are entitled to. It's one of the great things about a company like Sony is that we can provide it. We're very pleased to do that."
He also claimed that he is "very relaxed and confident about the prospects for Vita this year and beyond".

    What do you think?

Sony (MiiToo) forgets one thing. They already failed in this area.

Years ago they said the same for PSP, and is there to date a PS3 game with PSP connectivity?

Secondly...VITA does not come with PS3, so it will be a gimmick. Devs wont waste money for a add-on in a niche market. Devs skipped PSP-PS3 connect too.

Nintendo is smarter. Wii came bundled with motion controls, so the devs could use it on all games.
Every damn Wii-U is coming with screen controller too. This means that ALL devs can utilize it in some way because everyone have it.
Wanna know why so many buggy games never gets fixed on Xbox 360 and Windows Phone?

Microsoft charges 40.000$ each time a Indie dev submits a patch.

Microsoft...They are as Indie friendly as my Ass.

Wii U in short: Free online, frequently Free "On Disk DLC" and no online passes.

I agree, I mean I think its neat that Sony realizes that its a great idea but at the same time the implementation leaves a lot to be desired on Sony's end lol

Sony and Microsoft just love to copy Nintendo!

Maaaan, Nintendo came up with the idea, and now they support 2nd screen too, as if it was under development for a long time!
Thats annoying...come up with something new, something you actually thought about it first!

Yawn!! Talking about Ipad been first at touch screen................erm DS!! I think its a waste of an idea. Come on, your not going to buy a Vita just for this. At least with Microsoft's smartglass you can use your phone or tablet to do some of the things.

thats the point with nintendo fans, they seem to think nintendo invent all this cr@p, when they dont, they use what has already been done, needless to say the 3DS using old touch screen technology unlike iphones/ipads/vita using more upto date touch screen (no degrading touch pads)

touch screen gaming is not an invention of nintendo nor is having proper controls in addition to the touch screen but using both as part of a two screen home console is very much an innovation, just look at ms and sony falling over themseves to do their own versions of it and if its a success then i'm sure you can count on at least one of the ps4 / 720 to include something like it, as for multitpuch, do you understand the concept of holding a pad and its controls, you'll find it hard to multi touch anything like that.

we now know the Xbox One's game licensing policy was written from the ground up for companies. It's aggressively anti-consumer and anti-middle class, and it outright ignores underprivileged gamers. It's gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly and out of touch with a growing global resentment for corporations. - Polygon 7th June 2013

yet again more dribble, sony nor ms are making a controller thats "copying" nintendo, if you think adding support for tablet devices/smartphones is copying then erm your wrong.

how is this innovation, the wii u controller is just a gimmick controller to make the wii u (like the wii) sound like something it isnt, but its ok aparently all the games weve played before wasnt fun, but now theyre going to be because of this controller.

OMFG if youve seen reports made about touch screen on the DS that its not actually innovated anything for games, its main use was inventory/maps which we can select witht he press of a button, we wouldnt have to look away from the game screen to do so.

this isnt really innovation, the remaining games such as nintendogs, cooking mamma and the remaining shovel ware games that actually use touch screen controlls are dull and boring, verry repetetive.

so come on please less of the its innovation, sony/ms will fall over themselves to copy (need to remind if you call the far superior kinect as copying then you fail, the wiimote is a joke in comparison) all nintendo have done is seen how popular tablets have become and iphones and other simlar touch screen smartphones for gaming and have gone ooooohh we can jump on this wagon, make a tablet with controls aka a vita clone controller for a console.

the difference is, sony nor MS will force this as its primary controller, nintendo will, sure they offer the pro pad, but weve seen this before with the wii, it had barly no games to support it, because nintendo and its game devs were more bothered about releasing cheap games that are basically the same and is repetetive and you can imagin the same happening again (other than the last gen game ports)
