The next Zelda game for the 3DS may be a remake of the classics Nintendo 64 Majora's Mask or SNES's A Link to the Past

You may remember those supposeddly leaked images of an HD version of Majora's Mask that were intented to be announced at this year's E3 and didn't do it.

Now, we know that the concept is floating around the mind of Nintendo with Miyamoto suggesting that the new 3DS Zelda is going to be another remake of Majora's Mask (Nintendo 64) or A Link to the Past (Super Nintendo).

According to CVG:

Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto has suggested the next 3DS entry in the series will likely be a remake of N64 game Majora's Mask or SNES classic A Link to the Past.

It could even be a sequel to A Link to the Past, according to IGN. Speaking to the site about Nintendo's portable Zelda strategy, design legend Miyamoto said: "We haven't quite decided yet, whether we're going to do A Link to the Past, because there's also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora's Mask."
"This is something we've certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we're going to go."

Miyamoto went on say that Zelda fans will have to wait "just a little while longer" for concrete news either way.

Last week Miyamoto said that Zelda for Wii U is currently in the R&D phase, with Nintendo still seeking to identify the best way to bring the series "to a very big audience".

Here's a thought, how about you make an entirely new Legend of Zelda with a entirely new story and game play that's specifically made for the 3DS instead of yet another fucking remake!

indeed, they couuld just do one of those 3d classics of link to the past and release a proper new zelda title on wii u and 3ds because both could do with one

Well, I also want a new game.

But if I had two choose only between those two, I would prefer Majora's Mask 3D... but yes, they could also release a 3D Classics: TLOZ - A Link to the Past without many issues.

What I would like to see out of Zelda is to go back and make a new version of the SNES game. 2D with some 3D mixed in like SOTN was for Castlevania. Use the enhanced resolution and expanded storage to make something truly epic.

I know it will never happen but after the success of NSMB, one can hope that the message was sent that "Hey 2D games, they are still fun! A great game is great no matter how many dimensions it has and people will buy it!"
