Exclamation Thatgamecompany raises $5.5m, goes multiplatform

    Journey dev goes independent!

The developer behind cult digital PS3 titles Flow, Flower and Journey has just ended their game deal with PlayStation, and now they've raised $5.5 million from Benchmark Capital.

Thatgamecompany -studio behind the critically-acclaimed PlayStation Network titles Flow, Flower and Journey- has revealed that it has successfully raised $5.5m from Benchmark Capital, and it now seeks to go multi-platform.

“We have been very fortunate to have brought our players flOw, Flower and Journey through our three-game partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment America, Santa Monica Studio,” said studio boss Jenova Chen in a blog post. “We are extremely grateful to Sony and the many players who put their faith in us. Their support has turned Journey into the fastest selling title in PSN history.”
That's right they will use the cash to “make games for more platforms to reach larger audiences”. and the new partnership will allow them to provide players “the highest quality experience.”

“We are very excited about our new adventure. Please stay tuned, as we look forward to sharing with you more details about our next game soon.”
Seems that creative director Jenova Chen is very happy. Let's hope they reveal their next project soon!

Yeah, I think we should only add the following (from the Joystiq link provided):

    Update:

    thatgamecompany issued the following statement:

"We are extremely excited to be partnering with Benchmark Capital, as now we are going to be self-publishing our next games. We haven't announced if our next game will be multiplatform, but we are trying to reach a larger audience than that of the PS3."
So, basically, they "will try", but the true is they aren't tied to Sony anymore

Oh, I thought they'd bring this to the pc.
[My links are not selling counterfeit products, and link to a genuine lawfirm, if people can make use of it, more the better. I have never spammed or flooded my posts with my "message". NEVER a single time. With all due respect, I hope you realise it takes all kinds to make this community. Some of us are schoolkids who link to manga websites, others have our own businesses who may link to it. Not all fingers are the same, and not everyone spams. Sincerely].
