Dungeon Defenders for Vita cancelled

Trendy Entertainment has announced that development on Dungeon Defenders for Vita has ceased

One of the most promising games of the new PS Vita has been cancelled.

We are talking about Dungeon Defenders from Trendy Entertainment that has offered no long explanation for this apart from they diversion of the resources for other projects.

According to CVG:

Dungeon Defenders was one of the more promising titles that was shown back when the PS Vita was called the 'Next Gen Portable'.

"While we believe the Vita is a very capable platform, we've decided to shelve the Vita port of the game," Trendy said in an official statement on its forums.

"Many fans, including myself, would like to play Dungeon Defenders on the portable device, but ultimately, we've decided to divert those resources to other pursuits."

The post didn't provide any indication on what the studio is working on instead.

Thats a real shame, probably the most interesting Vita game (at least to me anyway.) I have seen so far.

i wonder if they will restart coding for this if the vita ever picks up because at present it must be disheartening* for dev to spend a lot of money / time making a game that hardly anyone outside of reviewers is ever going to see.

sure the vita isnt selling as fast as the wii, but the fact remains the vita looks far better than the 3DS, the vita is getting better games comming to it than the 3DS.

also mentioning the fact id rather buy a system that sells slow, and increased over the years than a system that sells like sh1t off a stick and then declines after a few years.

id also rather buy the consoles that have games that sell millions, unlike nintendo takes them ages to sell anything close to this.

so you dont like when someone says basically the same as you, you love a system that sells loads, but if someone says they prefare consoles that its games sells loads.

I would love to know where he gets his numbers from.... I honestly do visit more than just this web page for my gaming news and none of them (I read pretty much all of them....) support any of his claims when it comes to sales. No where on the planet do the sales numbers reflect what he says.

erm considering you allways state nintendo to allways sell loads compared to sony/ms.

the rest is completely BS, i got a vita for £300, with uncharted, a memory card which you claim wasnt included sure its a little expensive, but hello, thats not bad considering, maybe you would have liked sony to be cheap and release a over priced system that has bad slow down issues, that has to disable its key selling feature to play online etc.

another fact you epically failed at was the cost of the memory cards, which theyve droped now, also the so called fact you claimed that they didnt come with the system, which they did offer a bundle that came with a memory card.

when you bought a N64,PSX,GC did it come with a needed memory card as you seem to slate the vita over... no they didnt so whats your point other than fanboy dribble.

end of the day i buy a console to play games, nintendo lack the exclusive games sony/ms offer, dont bullsh1t me saying nintendo get them, when we can see these last gen games being ported to the wii u.

just you watch and see when the vita has been out for a year like the 3DS and compare the games, im already considering trading my 3DS in because metal gear solid 3d which i thought was going to be excellent was in fact poor, nintendo's poor desing, making me cash out for an aditional circle pad to be able to play games as intended, lack of power to prevent games suffering from slow down or having to disable 3D which is its key selling point.

2) breaking a sprint sales record (highest preorder, highest day 1 or launch week totals), yes, but thats no help if its out of the charts in 3 weeks and lets face it the games that do that (mostly cod) are multiplatform, however the fact remains that even games like cod dont do the numbers of some first party wii titles (it wasnt me who estimated that 20 million was a minimum number of sales any nintedo console would sell because that it the numbers that a mario or zelda would sell)
3) i make no attempt to hide my utter contempt for the criminals at sony but make no mistake at all, my dislike for their company was entirely their doing as i was quite happy to buy psx, ps2, psp and ps3 at launch irrespective of price, the vita is in fact the first major console release that i've skipped since 1978 and the ps4 will be the second
4) there is a difference between a slow start (like ps3 or 3ds) and a no start (like vita)
5) as a package, yes a mem card was included but thats not the standard item it was a special pack
6) no handheld has ever required a memory card just to play games games save to the carts, home consoles yes, as you couldnt save to cd everything from the saturn, psx and n64 forward has required a memory card however the vita has taken pricing to a whole new level of overprice, i can buy a 16gb sd card for less than a 4gb vita card (in fact recently ebuyer were doing a 32gb usb stick for less) and the 32gb vita card is so expensive that sony dont even sell it over here (but you can purchase an import)
7) no one except yourself would say that main nintendo first party titles werent renowned as the best games made and as said, wii has more exclusive titles than ps3 or 360
8) it might interest you to know that at launch many systems get titles ported from the last gen (kameo was a gc title, cod was on previous systems etc) so its no shock that "big" last gen titles will get ported to wii u, the fact that these ports offer more and look better is a testament to the power that the wii u has rather than it being a negative.
9) the gc had some of the highest rated games of its generation and in terms of sales it was equal to the original xbox despite being the most secure platform (lots of folks bough an xbox for xbmc) it also was equal in terms of power but the gc was a "failure" whilst the xbox was a success, go figure, and yes, the 3ds launch lacked major 1st party 3ds titles, however it wasnt lacking in half decent 3rd party titles but yes, it wasnt until the "big guns" were rolled out that the 3ds went through the roof in sales terms, and yes wii does lack those online marketplace / shooters and yes, that is a pity but you cant blame a maker if a publisher opts not to support it, almost if not all of the ps3 / 360 games could and would have been made on the ps2 if they had been thought up in that generation (assuming a decent online service) so every one could have been done on the wii.
10) £300 is a lot to pay for a handheld games console, even a really good one, but yes, a pack is designed to make it better value.
11) games with a touch screen do not need a second analog unless they are really badly programmed but yes, mgs3 like splinter cell was all but unplayable without the circle pad, metroid on the original ds showed how it could and should be done, i think every machine suffers slowdown, even the godlike neo-geo had issues on some titles and i've certainly had that problem on wii / 360 and ps3 as well when companies try to overdo things before they get the programming skills to do the proper job but dont blame a lack of power, as to the 3d issue, its your choice to use it, with the correct glasses / contacts or decent eyesight its fine although even i will admit to turning it off on many games mainly because i need to keep looking away from the screen or frankly the game doesnt need it but again thats a problem with all 3d, my tv and projector both CAN use it but i usually CHOOSE not to
12) well its you who sees it as favouring nintendo, sure, i like my wii, i like my 360 too but i'm happy to criticize when something is bad or wrong (like kinect), the problem is that since the 360 and ps3 are so similar in capabilities its been this gen that i do have to defend nintendo more than another brand, you never however comment or notice when i do say something is good or better about something sony does (it doesnt happen often though), the fact that i dislike the company for what they have done does not mean that as a gamer and fan of no specific manufacturer i cant say good things about their products as i have often said about the technology in the vita, my only issues with the vita itself are pretty much limited to its size and those memory card prices.
13) well lets be honest here of course they wont make all games playable with the old fashioned pad but what the hell it makes it easier for you to excuse the fact that you wont buy one.
