Jon Murphy, PES Team Leader: 'The only reason why FIFA is in the position it's in now is because of PES'

The war between the two big soccers sagas, FIFA and Pro Evolution is increasings with cross accusations of copying and "stealing" licenses from each other.

According to Eurogamer:

Jon Murphy has had enough. I can see it in his face as we sit down for our interview in Konami UK's Chiswick offices. And I can feel it in every answer he delivers to all the questions I put to him.

Perhaps it's not surprising. The Konami veteran has spent years as Pro Evolution Soccer European team leader banging the PES drum, but the last few have, by his own admission, been the most galling. As EA's FIFA series has pulled away from PES - the game so many of us played religiously "back in the day" before turning to the dark side at the beginning of this generation - he's had to accept second place. A distant second place. And doesn't everyone know it.

Still, the frankness with which he discusses PES' problems surprises me. During our chat Murphy explains Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka's shock exit from the console PES team, accuses FIFA of copying, alleges EA locks out Konami from licenses and delivers some home truths to fans of the football video game genre who, he believes, need their heads banging together.

very true. i only used to play pes cos fifa was an awful game before fifa 09. then they took on board a lot of things that pes did and created the best football game, i think just to say ea copied is harsh but they used a pes model and built a far better game than pes could achieve.

why i hate most EA games, all EA do is steal ideas that other games have done, if it wasnt for the other game, EA would have still been re releasing the same cr@p over n over, lets take Medal of Honor as a prime example, how EA couldnt think of anything other than the basic WW2 cr@p we had for almost 3 generations, untill activision released CoD MW which was far better, then what EA copy the idea.

If EA dont copy, they take what was already a good game and completely ruin it by trying to change it... lets see if they mess Dead Space 3 up, i found Dead Space 2 was pretty basic, and brought nothing special in fact the 1st was still the better game if you ask me.
