Sony: No PS4 news until 'significant leap' can be shown

Sony explains why the PS4 wasn't at E3



According to PS CEO Andrew House, the company will keep new hardware under wraps until it can demonstrate a major advance over PS3.

In a recent interview with MCV, PlayStation CEO Andrew House explained why the firm's next console skipped E3 this year.

According to him, Sony is not prepared to demonstrate its PlayStation 4 console until the system can demonstrate 'a significant leap' in technology.

"The right time to talk about new advances in hardware is when you can demonstrate a significant leap on the current experience, and something that is going to be attractive," he said.

"That remains our philosophy. Beyond that we have nothing to say at this point."

Some analysts and execs have already claimed that next-gen graphics will not leap as far forward as the current gen did from the previous.

I think they could, but it would be an upgraded PS3 at best. They just don't have the cash to invest in developing some new CPU or a new format.

Or this news story is smoke and mirrors for "We launch the new system next year."

Upgrade the GPU add in some more RAM and make it cost $50 more than the current model. Not sure how well that would go over but at this point in time its not like it could do much worse.
