Exclamation S.Korea PSN Store closing due to new country Online laws

    Will be back 'this year'...

Seems that Sony has been forced to take the Korean PlayStation Store offline *temporarily* due to new laws in the region.

It looks like, in South Korea, the new "Game Industry Promotion Act" dictate that persons under the age of 18 must not be asked to submit their real name or age.

As the PSN Store requires this, the Korean PS Store, will face a long-term suspension.

The new law, due to take affect on July 1, states that persons under the age of 18 cannot be asked for their real name or age as part of account authentication, as the PSN Store requires. SCEK does not have enough time to alter the service before July 1, and so is taking the entire store down until it has complied with the law.

During the outage, Sony says the purchase of new content, download, and online game registration will be impossible. While it aims to resume service sometime this year, it does not know when that will be.
The PS Vita, PSP and other portable devices that use the PSN Store "will not be affected".

So, nope, there's no ETA on when it will be back other than this year. At least people in there can still play games Online?

not if they use an online pass they cant because it cant be activted, also all the stolen content removed to be given back as ransomware or sold back as dlc cant be used and anything already activated or purchased cant be redownloaded if (for example) you get a new machine or need to delete a game to make space for an install.

As anyone with a ps3 knows you can enter codes and re-download content via account management, so no need for the store itself.

discontinue korean online priviledges and 90% of them will committ suicide.
[My links are not selling counterfeit products, and link to a genuine lawfirm, if people can make use of it, more the better. I have never spammed or flooded my posts with my "message". NEVER a single time. With all due respect, I hope you realise it takes all kinds to make this community. Some of us are schoolkids who link to manga websites, others have our own businesses who may link to it. Not all fingers are the same, and not everyone spams. Sincerely].

well sony themselves were the ones who said it since, i assume, that its the ps store that handles all purchases and keeps the account details
