Exclamation New Super Mario Bros. 2 will receive paid DLC

    Satoru Iwata confirmed it

Nintendo has confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will get some paid DLC.

Well, that's really bad news for us, New Super Mario Bros. 2 has not been released yet but we already know that the game will receive some paid DLC, Satoru Iwata revealed it during today's Nintendo Direct Broadcast.

The new DLC will include additional stages for the game's Coin Rush mode and it will be produced after the main game is done. The price for this DLC has not been revealed yet.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released on July 28 in Japan for Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo also opened an official website for the game, linked below, with a lot of gameplay videos.

What do you think about this?

    disgraceful, nothing more to say.

we now know the Xbox One's game licensing policy was written from the ground up for companies. It's aggressively anti-consumer and anti-middle class, and it outright ignores underprivileged gamers. It's gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly and out of touch with a growing global resentment for corporations. - Polygon 7th June 2013

Announcing it before the game is even out IS a bit sketchy... but just because its DLC dosen't mean its bad. Nintendo has said they are against the idea of charging for skins and hardmodes and other such on-disk content or stuff that really should be free.

Yes, many MANY games abuse DLC, but there are quite a few that make good us of it too, the way it was meant to be used. Like Mass Effect or Borderlands. I sure as hell am happy that the DLC for Borderlands was made.

I don't see Nintendo nickle-and-dimeing people for skins and other useless DLC, but I guess time will tell.

Just saying... hold off the torches and pitchforks until after we know what they will release.

Seeing all those coins on the cover makes me remember the 3 seconds of gameplay I saw of its predecessors. Seriously Nintendo? You're just going to hand that many lives to players without any work for it? I feel like Mario hasn't been Mario since Super Mario World. Yoshi's Island still kicked ass, but it wasn't really a Mario game.
I used to fanboy consoles in my sig. Now I'm not so sure they are worth my love. Steam has done more for me than all 3 consoles combined this gen.

I liked the NSMB on the DS and on the Wii they where really good. That being said it would be difficult to reproduce the greatness that is Super Mario World on the SNES, that game is near perfection when it comes to 2D platforming.

I do have to agree about borderlands DLC, it was done right and there was actual value in the added content. One of the few times I can honestly say "Yeah buy it, for DLC its totally worth it and you will love it if you enjoyed the game!"

The last part of your post kind of gives me some hope, but I am still keeping my pitchfork and torches ready! lol

you are right but lets be clear, Nintendo said that they would only use dlc to expand a complete game and yet what do they announce? new speed run course packs, hardly an expansion to the complete game more cash in.

as for borderlands, yes, they were proper expansion packs however they did perform a lot of buttfuckery with them, putting only 2 on retail sale then releasing not 1 but 2 "goty" editions only one of which had all 4 expansions on disc the other was just the original disc with a dlc code.

Don't give a sod about nintendo anyways. I will get and play the main game but not interested in the dlc.
[My links are not selling counterfeit products, and link to a genuine lawfirm, if people can make use of it, more the better. I have never spammed or flooded my posts with my "message". NEVER a single time. With all due respect, I hope you realise it takes all kinds to make this community. Some of us are schoolkids who link to manga websites, others have our own businesses who may link to it. Not all fingers are the same, and not everyone spams. Sincerely].

Late response, but I had to concur.

I didn't get to play the Wii version, but the DS NSMB was sufficient. I really missed the ability to fly though. Granted it broke several levels in SMW, but it was still something awesome. I felt like the DS NSMB was the point where they were starting to care less about the art of level design, and just was releasing a product. There were still some nice touches added where you had to do something special/skillful to get those coins. I HATED that you had to spend them to save your game though.
