Exclamation Megaupload's Kim Dotcom teases new 'Megabox' project

His answer to the music industry’s 'outdated business model' is coming soon.

MEGABox will be a legit music sharing site, which will soon 'allow artists to sell their creations direct to consumers and allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings'.

That's right, despite the huge "upheavals" of the last few months, Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom has announced that the MEGABox service is coming soon and will shift the balance of power away from multi-billion dollar corporations to the artists who actually make the music.

“Artists rejoice. It’s coming and it will unchain you,” he said.

The Megaupload founder described the Megabox project as “..a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations direct to consumers and allowing artists to keep 90% of earnings.”

“You can expect several Megabox announcements [in 2012] including exclusive deals with artists who are eager to depart from outdated business models,” he added.

When Dotcom and his colleagues were arrested earlier this year, many people believed that the Megabox project would fade away. In fact, some theorized that Megabox was one of the main reasons why the recording labels and by extension the U.S. Government wanted the Megaupload team to fold quickly.
So, the project isn't dead and he confirmed it via his Twitter account:

On a related note, seems that a New Zealand judge has ruled that the search warrants used to allow the raids of Megaupload owner Kim Dotcom were “invalid”.

The BBC, however, reports High Court judge Justice Helen Winkelmann as saying: "The warrants did not adequately describe the offences to which they related. They were general warrants, and as such, are invalid.”

The police and judiciary are now in discussions "to determine what further action might be required".

Millions of dollars as well as a fleet of nearly 20 luxury vehicles, art pieces and computers were seized as part of the operation.
So, it looks like the MU founder got away with it.

Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming service.

If this guy can use advertising to sell music rather than peoples money, and at 10% of the generated revenue- with 90% profits to artists based on a songs popularity (most views=most ad views=most money) or people who will shell out the small fee to copy it to their iPod by all means, I hope the RIAA die due to this guys ingenuity.

You tell me how the RIAA, MPAA, FBI and the rest of these 'involved' US folks who actioned this case aren't douches but DotCom is. None of them have a good history... Also remember the reason this is being thrown out. The FBI broke laws too like invalid warrants and illegally copying all the data and exporting it back to the US. Im glad New Zealand stood up, and DotCom had the sense to operate in a country that stands up for its people.

Also why was FBI targeting MegaUpload? Was it due to the megabox pressure the RIAA bought? I mean just after they were seized almost EVERY file locker website changed their policy, some to the extent it be a private locker - which isn't exactly great for sharing stuff with anyone. It don't exactly seem they were all too innocent either but possession is 9/10 of the law.

i wouldnt call the mpaa, riaa, esa, bpi and fbi douches, i'd call them corrupt criminal cartels because that is what they are.

Well, corrupt criminal cartels is specific and kinda hard to say
