Sony's back to school promo seemed too good to be true?
Seems that Sony quietly dropped the $750 laptop from the PCs that qualify for the free PS3 or PS Vita offer deal for Students.
Remember that SONY started a 'back to school' promotion where you could get a free PS3 or PS Vita if you buy a VAIO PC, a few weeks ago?
Well, at the start of the promotion, you could just buy the "cheaper" VAIO T model priced at $750.
But now, Sony has quietly dropped that Laptop from the PCs that qualify for the deal, raising the real qualifying price to $970 for a 15.5-inch VAIO S.

Some will cry foul at being denied such a killer bargain without warning, but it's easy to see why Sony backed out: that's a lot of gear to give away for little in return. Dreams of heading to class with an ultraportable in hand and a PS3 at the dorm will have to be postponed, then, even if it's still an ample discount.
So, there you go. The promotion is still live, but if you are a Student, looks like you'll have to spend a couple hundred dollars more for your VAIO PC if you want the free PS3 or Vita.
Or, better yet, just buy the system from another store and get a cheaper Laptop/Tablet from another brand?
