Exclamation MS announces $39.99 Windows 8 Pro upgrade offer for most Windows users

Win 8 upgrades to be 'cheaper than ever' - $39.99 online, $69.99 in stores.

Microsoft has announced that Windows 8 Pro upgrades will cost just $39.99 via download, and you will be able to replace Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

Microsoft has announced a really "aggressive" pricing for their next Windows 8 upgrade promotion.

For a limited time only, Windows 8 Pro upgrades will cost just $39.99 via download, or $69.99 for a boxed DVD. Download customers will be able to buy a backup DVD for $15 plus shipping and handling.

We set out to make it as easy as possible for everyone to upgrade to Windows 8. Starting at general availability, if your PC is running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 you will qualify to download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 in 131 markets. And if you want, you can add Windows Media Center for free through the “add features” option within Windows 8 Pro after your upgrade.
It will last until January 31st, 2013.

According to MS, you will be able to upgrade from any consumer edition of Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro and bring everything along, including Windows settings, personal files, and apps. But, you can also upgrade from previous OS versions...

If you are upgrading from Windows Vista, you will be able to bring along your Windows settings and personal files, and if you are upgrading from Windows XP you will only be able to bring along your personal files.

Of course, if you want to start fresh, you can choose to bring nothing along.
Users who aren't upgrading from a previous version and are building their own machine or running a virtual one will need to buy Windows 8 Pro System Builder.

So, they will release more details when we get closer to the OS launch, which should be this fall.

The promotion is already more cheaper and more widely available than the equivalent option for Windows 7 (upgrades to Win 7 Home Premium and Professional were available for $49 and $99, respectively).

So, what do you think? Are you willing to jump in?

Nice price, but i wont upgrade for along time until i know how it is compared to W7.

I own 2 * Win 7 licenses, and one of them is very good.. While on my newest PC it have a few bugs which isnt possible to get rid of. Noone see to have same problem when i searched google either. The worst is that it cant remember file types for videos, but it can for music, pics etc.

Why switch something that works? (Atleast properly on 1 PC.

Why is so many people defending EA, when they are a shit company with yearly shovelware? They even won a prize for it twice.

I might get this for my desktop purely to have in case i ever find a use for it (if the offer comes to the uk), i have a couple of old licenses i can use so i can keep w7.

However, i cant see w8 ever being my main os (where possible).
