Exclamation EA's John Riccitiello wanted players to pay 1$ for reloading a clip on Battlefield

    EA losing its mind again

'When you are six hours into playing Battlefield and you run out of ammo in your clip and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you’re really not that price sensitive at that point in time'

EA's CEO John Riccitiello has a curious way to "sell" the digital future of videogames. In a recent declarations he said that players won't mind to pay 1$ for a clip reload when playing Battlefield, for example.

According to Riccitello when he was interviewed by xbox360achievements:

When you are six hours into playing Battlefield and you run out of ammo in your clip and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you’re really not that price sensitive at that point in time,” he stated.

So essentially what ends up happening, and the reason the play-first, pay-later model works nicely, is a consumer gets engaged in a property. They may spend ten, twenty, thirty, fifty hours in a game. And then, when they’re deep into a game, they’re well invested in it.

At that point in time the commitment can be pretty high. It’s a great model and it represents a substantially better future for the industry.
Oh yeah "Ricci"!, the next step is trying to charge players for just moving their characters more than 100m in the game . Keep that way and you will lost your job soon and EA the entire industry

well i wanted to see this prick with the business end of a claw hammer sticking out of his skull but sadly i'm not likely to see that either, although if he tried something like this i would hope that at least i'd get to see EA crash and burn in a most spectacular fashion so it wouldn't be all bad.

    Thumbs down

Battlefield 3 is a sh*t, not like game, but like business. It is no more a game, but a market to make money.

I read about this months ago, but it's still just as shocking being reminded of it. I'll let him pass (only a little) since I think he was talking to or trying to impress his shareholders at that time. I have no reason to believe anything this egregious is going to happen.

Of course my opinion doesn't matter. I'm no longer an EA customer if I can help it. They are going to need a massive attitude adjustment before I fork over cash to that monster.

EDIT: No wonder why this news is so old, I accidentally clicked to the last page of news while browsing the front page.

I used to fanboy consoles in my sig. Now I'm not so sure they are worth my love. Steam has done more for me than all 3 consoles combined this gen.
