Will be called 'The Internet Association'.
The Internet Association will launch next September and will operate out of Washington, handling political and regulatory issues.
That's right, Google, Amazon, Facebook and eBay have all teamed up to form the Internet Association, a powerful lobbying group that describes itself as "the unified voice of the Internet economy, representing the interests of America's leading Internet companies and their global community of users."
Beckerman added: "...the Internet's decentralized and open model is what has enabled its unprecedented growth and innovation. We must guard against misguided attempts to handcuff this incredible source of job creation, freedom and creativity."The group would "educate" lawmakers about the internet, said new president Michael Beckerman.
Mr Beckerman is a former adviser to the chairman of the House of Representatives Energy And Commerce Committee.
"We want to educate [lawmakers] about the impact of the internet in their congressional districts," he said.
The full list of companies joining the group and the issues they would focus on would be announced in September, he added.
The issues these net firms will face include privacy legislation, online sales tax reforms, cybersecurity and proposed anti-piracy and copyright laws.
So, let's hope this puts an end to the recent SOPA, ACTA and all the other nonsense proposed bills that have showed up this year, once and for all!
