Exclamation Xbox 360 new Dashboard Upate (Beta 2.0.16091.0) details

    Includes IE9 and Xbox Music.

This year Xbox Live dashboard update has rolled out to beta testers.
Check out what's new on this one. Also, it looks like backups still boot fine on LT+ v3.0 and xk3y continues to work on LIVE...

If you didn't know, Microsoft kicked off a public Beta for the fall 2012 Xbox Live update, but quickly ran out of space (so registrations are now closed).

Now, it looks like they've rolled out the Beta update to those lucky testers sooner than expected. And you can already check out some of the new Dashboard features, as some people are already giving details about it.

Our tipster says that the dashboard feels a lot faster; it's also larger, with more tiles. The minimal fitness-related information has been expanded, with a full exercise data section.
    - Internet Explorer.

Browser-wise, it's running a modified version of Internet Explorer 9, which doesn't appear to have tabbed browsing but lets users toggle between loading the desktop and mobile versions of pages. It also reportedly supports HTML5 video.
    - XBOX Music.

Xbox Music is part of the new beta and apparently looks like "rebranded Zune."
    - SmartGlass.

SmartGlass is also making its debut on the Xbox: connecting an iOS or Windows Phone 7 device brings up the message "SmartGlass connected," though there's apparently no other functionality yet.

And finally, according to the c4evaSpeaks website, the Beta update brings the Xbox 360 dashboard/kernel up to version 2.0.16091.0, and...

Users have reported that backups still boot fine on LT+ v3.0 and xk3y also continues to work on LIVE. So far, there have been no reports of any adverse effects on c4eva's iXtreme firmware.
Expect this one to launch to the general public later this year. Stay tuned!

    perfect?

you have to subscribe to live gold to browse the internet (free on EVERYTHING else except those old dedicated 3g portable hardware browsers),
    it has no tabs.

we now know the Xbox One's game licensing policy was written from the ground up for companies. It's aggressively anti-consumer and anti-middle class, and it outright ignores underprivileged gamers. It's gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly and out of touch with a growing global resentment for corporations. - Polygon 7th June 2013

Awesome... Cant wait till all the browser exploits start rolling out. Modified or not, its still IE and the most hacked browse to ever be made.

I can not wait to hear about Xboxes getting viruses. A console with a virus sounds hilariously funny. Can not wait!
I used to fanboy consoles in my sig. Now I'm not so sure they are worth my love. Steam has done more for me than all 3 consoles combined this gen.

well the more these companies continue to cease making games consoles and instead churning out cut down, overpriced low spec pc's the more likely it is that a virus is going to happen.

i wonder if ms will require a live gold account to allow you to use a virus checker? and if they will charge the makers £10k+ for every update to the virus database?

I pay for Xbox Live like its bread and water.

As far as I'm concerned they are giving us more and more and more.... for that same old price tag from 6 years ago $59.99/year with no major services to speak of back then.

What is $60? A weeks worth of snacks & work lunches. Peanut butter.

Would I have still paid for Xbox Live if not for all of these APP releases and new services.... Yes.

    Value added?... Yes Sir. Indeed.

    Thanks Microsoft.

its all these APP releases and the adverts which should be paying for it now, sony has the same stuff and no adverts in your face yet its still free on sen (as is the wii) but the 360 is less and less of a games console now than it was when it launched, frankly they might as well forget about proper games on it and just keep updating the apps alongside the xbla titles kind of like a hybrid between a media centre and an iphone.

oh and ps+ actually does provide added value rather than acting as a paywall for even the most basic of online features like live does.
