Exclamation This Xbox HDMI cable has 'anti-virus protection'

    'The Edge Of Human Stupidity'

That's right, a 3rd party Xbox 360 HDMI cable claims to contain 'anti-virus protection to reduce virus noises and to obtain perfect image transmission.'

This "Superior quality" Xbox 360 Elite HDMI cable not only offers you "an exceptional image, whether you are playing a game or watching your favourite DVD", but it also has "anti-virus protection".

Yep, that's what the feature list on the packaging says...

We'd like to believe that the packaging for this HDMI cable is the victim of poor translation or some kind of misunderstanding. We sincerely hope that no one working in the consumer electronics industry believes that digital video is susceptible to viruses, those viruses cause noises, and that you can fend them off with a nice coating of Mylar. But we've had to deal with the public, and know better.
"100% Mylar" double shield 1.3c grade cable with anti-virus protection to reduce virus noises and to obtain perfect image transmission". Bigger pic:

So, the cable doesn't claim to feature virus protection. IT features "anti-virus protection". Virus protection protects you from viruses. So anti-virus protection must protect you from anti-viruses?

They probably went to the Monster Cable marketing school, right?!

NEWS SOURCE #1: Is there anyone stupid enough to believe that this cable has anti-virus protection (via) GizModo
NEWS SOURCE #2: This HDMI cable represents the limits of human stupidity (via) Consumerist

Our thanks to 'Gauss' for this news item!

Well shiver me timbers! I'd better rip out all this ethernet cabling and replace it with this anti-virus HDMI cables! I'll save a boat load of money on maintenance fees to Symantec.

Though, I should consider how you get anti-virus updates for HDMI cables. Research is required!

Bioshock Infinite is rated as maybe the best game this generation. Irrational Games really deserved this.

I am pretty sure this is just a massively funny translation error, what they probably said in the original language was something along the lines of "It helps to protect against signal bleed/infection in from other sources."

Engrish at its finest though lol

Yes, it's most likely a bad translation.

Reminds me of my step nan who wouldn't use a computer as she was a hypochondriac who had heard that computers can get viruses and pass them on. Funny thing tho she never once had a problem being around computers in the bookies and got majorly stressed out a couple of years ago when the old Teletext got shut off with switch to digital as she couldn't check her results with the one braincel she had left that had the page number burned in to it. She wouldn't have it tho, she had heard about it on the news so nothing you could say could convince her, even when my grandfather asked her if she was really that retarted as there are computers in virtualy everything these days and she had yet to catch anything except Bullshiteis which resulted in her pretending to be ill when she had to do anything but go to the bookies
    My gaming systems -
    Consoles - Wii, Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Jtag Jasper 2TB 3.5" HDD, PS3 60GB UK launch version, PS3 hacked with 500GB 3.5" HDD (2TB wouldn't work ).

    PC - i7 3930K @4.6GHZ, Asus Rampage IV Extreme, 2xRadeon 7970, 32GB DDR3, 4TB Raid HDD (4X Samsung Spinpoint F3, SSD boot drive OCZ Vertex 3 120GB )

These are gaming systems I am biased towards (may as well throw in everything from last gen and before as if the PC can emulate it I am likley to have it)

Sounds great.. It would be beneficial to the customer point of view because Xbox HDMI cable keeps your computer protected with scanning and provides a range of scanning options for the customers.
