Exclamation Hideki Kamiya: PlayStation All-Stars is just an immoral rip-off

DMC creator and Bayonetta director doesn't like the upcoming PlayStation fighter.

Kamiya slammed PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale on Twitter, claiming it is a 'rip-off' [of Smash Bros.], and that Sony just threw morals away.

Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry designer Hideki Kamiya, isn't a fan of Sony and SuperBot Entertainment's upcoming PS fighter PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, which he claims is “just a rip-off” of Smash Bros.

The developer went so far as to try and shame the publisher, because of 'the lack of visible morals'.

Here's what he responded to the angry gamers unhappy with his view, on his Twitter account:

So, I think we all agree with this, right? (even Sony does).

But, of course, that doesn't mean it couldn't be good...

The game is scheduled to be released on October 23 in NA and October 24 in Europe, for the PS3 and PS Vita.

It's the worst ripoff I've seen in many years, and since it was announced I've been kind of surprised that people didn't comment on it.

well guess you could say splinter cell is a rip off of mgs, project gotham racing is a rip off of gran turismo ohh wait theres loads of games that share the idea, just because one system offers something similar, it doesnt mean its a rip off.

You could say all beat em up games rip each other off because its basic idea remains the same, this guy is just saying its a rip off because its using key charactors simlar to smash brothers.

My first thought upon seeing it mentioned before now was that it sounds like a Nintendo rip off (yes Nintendo didn't think of it first either but at least they added their own spin) with little imagination in the naming and from those pics, not enough homegrown franchises to give a decemt roster, hence the 3rd party characters that are on most if not all formats. That said, it's hard for a company with no morals to actually throw them away. Typical Sony tho, when they should be at least thinking for themselves and comming up with somthing new or at least their own implimentation, they can't help but copy Nintendo, but when they should be copying Nintendo with their own bit of flavor thrown in, they make the PSP and Vita along with their fail marketing and pricing, not to mention failing to grasp the concept of mobile gaming. Mind you look at the sahmbles that Move and Sixaxis are, when they couldn't decide if they should do a plain rip off or try to do their own thing, and in the end to a sub standard job of both.
    My gaming systems -
    Consoles - Wii, Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Jtag Jasper 2TB 3.5" HDD, PS3 60GB UK launch version, PS3 hacked with 500GB 3.5" HDD (2TB wouldn't work ).

    PC - i7 3930K @4.6GHZ, Asus Rampage IV Extreme, 2xRadeon 7970, 32GB DDR3, 4TB Raid HDD (4X Samsung Spinpoint F3, SSD boot drive OCZ Vertex 3 120GB )

These are gaming systems I am biased towards (may as well throw in everything from last gen and before as if the PC can emulate it I am likley to have it)

I think the problem is if you are unfamiliar with the characters, you could look at videos of Smash Bros, and this, and you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. At least with the EA/Zynga thing, you can see different art styles.

Personally, I don't care if every game is a direct clone of the last one, because there is a certain art to game making that will make the better ones outshine the crappier game. It's like any other product on the shelves at your local department store: the best ones will sell the best because quality matters.
I used to fanboy consoles in my sig. Now I'm not so sure they are worth my love. Steam has done more for me than all 3 consoles combined this gen.

That's what I was wondering too, seems to me sony forsake the concept of morals a long time ago probably... definitely they did earlier in this gen.

As far as the copy not copy argument, I would say the game are just too similar for one to say "oh well it's just the same type of game". The wonder of SSB is the rosters and the casual fighting style, THAT is what has made the series what it is, now can somebody tell me with a straight face this is not exactly what sony are going for with this game? I've never had much of an issue with one company copying another as it usually benefits us as consumers, and even in this case I'm not particularly bothered, but as opposed to other times when sony have copied others where their implementations bring something similar, but a bit different, this is just blatant, straight out, unceremonious, carbon copying... and I just hope ninty don't sue them, cause the games and their purpose are just so similar that ninty will win and that will f*ck up the video game industry for good. Not because ninty would destroy sony (I think a lot of us can agree that would be a great thing), but because it will set a horrible precedent in the courts that will be used to stifle innovation of newer series.

I was actually all for a ssb type game on a sony console.. But when this was shown i was like.. Oh... thats pretty lame stuff.

I dont think nintendo will sue.. I just think this forces their hand on significantly changing up smash brothers this time around. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Nintendo will most likely have a new incarnation of the smash series this next gen, and sony will have this sort of clone of a 15 year old game. That you can play a better version of on a gamecube.

From what i understand the games do play kind of differently. but blatantly riping art style, animations, and move ideas is just crappy.. Especially since the characters in PS allstars do have their own personalitlies in their respective games. This is actually an insult to the character development of some of these third parties, and it shows how un-inmaginative and un-inspired the development studio is behind this game. They seem more like smash fans, then fans of the characters included in PS all stars.

I like the competition between the companies.. but when you go and do crap like this, it just makes it stale for us the gamers.. Having the same game, same style, same stuff on every console really sucks for gamers.
