Exclamation Ouya Kickstarter closes at $8.58 million, pre-orders now available

Slated to ship in April, next year.

The Ouya Kickstarter is now over, so, the Android console web portal is now open and... its already taking pre-orders!

That's right, the Ouya Kickstarter campaign closed with $8,584,466 raised from 63,308 backers, greatly exceeding its intial $950,000 goal (by 903%).

Now, console manufacturer "Boxer8" have launched the official Ouya web portal, accessible at http://Ouya.tv and yes, its already taking pre-orders, from $109 for US customers and $119 for those abroad (included in the price tag is the console, a single controller and the requisite shipping costs).

If you choose to pre-order now, you will receive your Ouya in April 2013. However, those who backed up Ouya via Kickstarter, will receive their unit in March.

So, pre-order yours at the official website linked below, and stay tuned here at MaxConsole for more Ouya-related news in the upcoming months!

I literally missed the deadline for backing by two minutes ... I was pissed. Will have a look at the pre-order price now.

I would have been a backer.

But my first experience with Kickstarter has turned out bad.

I went in all fire and storm and became a 'major backer' for a great new hardware product that was from trusted key people in industry, and over 2 years later and still waiting to see the development boards for it.

Just like this project then when overboard as they raised 1,000 times more then they originally asked for, and been adding tons of features, and doing endless re-designs on the PCBoard, never getting the CORE product out the door.

Originally the OUYA was designed to be $99 low-end hackable CONSOLE for everyone, I fear the 'hackable' side is long good, as with all this millions of money and tons of top-end publishers, the thing if it does appear will be so lock tight, you will be able to do nothing with it, but stream and play the allowed games on it.

The whole streaming box thing looks more interesting to me than the game end of it. $109 for the system with 1 controller is not a bad deal. There might be cheaper streaming options but this one has the power to be upgradeable to new codecs in the future. Quad core Tegra 3 processor 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. Wireless, Bluetooth, all that jazz.

If there is some good emulators made for it, I might consider replacing my media center PC with one.

They can stuff the marketplace and those Android games (well some of them look like they might be fun.)

They can also shove Onlive too.... where the sun don't shine!

Edit: I head its getting an HD remake of Final Fantasy III and XMBC for media. The XMBC is the most interesting aspect of it for me, but FFIII might be interesting for other people.
