Exclamation Neo Geo X Gold to be released December 6th worldwide

    Not vaporware after all

Finally, the portable console will see the light with a retail price of $199 including a full joystick and a docking station

Good news, retro-fans. What it seemed vaporware some months ago, it wasn't. We are talking about the portable Neo Geo X that has changed its name for Neo Geo X Gold, changed the screen size from 3.5" to 4.3" and finally got a release date and price. The system will be launched worldwide on December 6th for "just" $199 including a full joystick (The Old Style one) and a docking station for charging and connecting the console to the TV via HDMI/RCA.

Here is the full press release:

    Price of games?

I tried Goggling what the price of the games will be, I wasn't able to find anything about it..

The price of the games will be a huge point, if I will buy the console or not. I think the 15-20 year old games already made their money, and if someone is trying to make more money on the shoulders of what somebody else made, they are not entitled to that much money.

A $200.00 console plus the price of games is a big decision. So if they are going to leech off others work and want huge prices for games, then I hope the scene will show them the errors of their ways and have the roms we use with are Emulators, work with the console. Like come on, don't use are love of the " now retro " games we grew up with to gouge us with unrealistic prices, just to make them rich.

If I am not mistaken I think this system has an SD slot of some sort and will actually load the ROM's right from that card.

If it does not do that, just buy a PSP and hack it then load it with the NeoGeo emulator and do the same thing... lol

Edit: Hmmm thinking about this a bit more, it's probably cheaper just to do it that way to start with. I can pick up a used PSP with 2GB stick off Craigslist for $60 every day of the week.

Thinking about what you said -- and you nailed right on the head... The PSP would be the way to go, which will also allow me to use other Emulators.. Damn sometimes the answers are oblivious to me... lol

Yeah, I am not the biggest fan of the PSP myself but for portable emulators I hear its the best thing going right now. (well short of some of those JXD Chinese knock off PSP's but I worry about the quality of those machines and finding one cheaper than a used PSP could be a challenge.)

I wouldn't mind one of these tho I don't think I could convince the missus to let me get one due to having emulators for years. Still it makes me smile to see that you can get all this for about the cost of a game back in the day.
    My gaming systems -
    Consoles - Wii, Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Jtag Jasper 2TB 3.5" HDD, PS3 60GB UK launch version, PS3 hacked with 500GB 3.5" HDD (2TB wouldn't work ).

My new Next Gen Console - i7 4770k@4.7GHZ + H100i, ASRock Z87E-ITX, Gigabyte Radeon HD7970 GHZ Edition, 16GB Corsair Dominator PLATINUM 1866@2400, Crucial m4 256GB mSATA SSD, 1GB WD Caviar Black, 64GB OCZ Agility 3 SRT cache. All in a red Bitfenix Prodigy.
