Exclamation Just 5% of New Super Mario Bros. 2 players in Japan bought the Download Version

A 'relatively slow' start in Japan.

Satoru Iwata, revealed some details about download sales of the just released 'New Super Mario Bros. 2' and 'Demon Training', in Japan.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata, shared a few details about the digital sales of the first Nintendo titles that were released both at retail stores and on the eShop.

First, New Super Mario Bros. 2 has been brought primarily at retail, with only 5% of consumers opting to buy a download version of the game.

Iwata seemed all right with this result: "This initial offering going forward, we've gotten a good reaction going," he said.
Demon Training, on the other hand, saw 20% of consumers buy the download version.

Iwata theorizes that Demon Training has higher download sales because of its nature of being a puzzle game that you play everyday, which likely made users want to have it on them at all times without requiring to carry an additional cartridge around.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is now out in Europe and will be released in North America this Sunday August 19th. As with Japan, the game will be launched simultaneously at both a retail and on the Nintendo eShop.

5% is wrong, it was 5,000 (or at least it was originally reported as such, maybe that has now changed) so an even lower percentage, i still cant believe there are that many fucking imbeciles who would buy it digitally rather than actually owning a copy, especially since the locked down, worthless digital copy actually cost more than the retail game that you can use on any 3ds system (subject to region lock) and trade in or sell later to put towards buying something else.

    assing.

Its better to have no rebate, than only 5%. 5% is embarrassing. 5% wont boost the sale at all, because thats almost like the same price it already had.
I call N cheap asses here. Atleast N wasnt cheap when they dumped the price of 3DS to nearly half thou.. which is alot.

15-20% would be normal to thank previous owners.

Anyone remember when Nintendo insisted that people prefer Friend Codes?

Good reaction my ***, this is flat-out denial. 5% is PATHETIC, especially when considering how much they were hyping the download version and offering rewards on their club program if you opted for it over the cart.

to which theyre making back on this via charging XL users extra for a charger cable, which really wouldnt have cost that much to have included with the XL.

and yea so nintendo should have cut the cost, considering its a piss poor system, my mobile phone has more power than the 3DS, plus a bigger screen. the XL i find again should have a price cut, it looks so cheap, the casing, nintendo havent added to the systems specs, it cant upscale very well.

to be honest the whole 3DS is a ripp off, they release a version, within a year release another one with a bigger screen knowing darn well that almost all those that baught a 3DS will upgrade to this one because of the screen been bigger.

like sheep to the slaughter house really.

    1. The US release has a charger, probably because they know there would be a riot if there wasn't.

    2. I, as well as many others, have no interest in a larger screen and an even larger system that can't fit in your pocket. The screen doesn't look as good since its the same resolution as the normal 3DS. I had no interest in a DSiXL either.

Well, OK, voice of reason again..
This only indicates that there wasn't enough value to get the digital instead of the packaged version. Which is really obvious. The packaged version is cheaper, you can sell it, play in on more than one 3DS, etc.

I just got the 3DS XL myself, and I must say I VERY MUCH prefer it over the original 3DS (I have that too. I buy all consoles.). Pretty much every part of it is better than the original in my opinion.

But that charger thing is still fucked up as ****.

Digital downloads will always be a fail, if content distributors refuse to lower their online prices, as in-store & eBay price drops.

I think that EBGames/Gamestop makes the same mistake with their used games. It's not smart to sell used games for higher prices, than a new copy of the same game at another store or eBay.

Xbox Live keeps their digital full game downloads at recklessly high prices, considering you can pick most of those games up for $20 at Wal-mart's discount bin.

Sorry online content distributors, you don't operate in a bubble market, you aren't a monopoly, even if you think that running a marketplace online somehow changes things. If anything you should be charging much less than the retail price on launch, considering the lower costs of distribution & manufacturing.

So keep your prices in line, or get out.

Only 1 year between these 2 isnt good.

Sony is trying it in different ways, but they probably know by now that their brand isnt strong anymore as nothing they do helps to increase sales. Not even 1 price for VITA+PS3 helps. People just dont care anymore. Sony is also never among the best TV's anymore either. Long time ago its was usually Sony and Philips who battled for the #1 spot. Now its Samsung and Panasonic. I would guesss that Sharp or LG is number 3 and 4 now. Sony lost the TV battle too, but so did Philips as they cant keep up with the tech anymore.

The worst rip-off company today is Apple thou, and they suck badly at several things.

If i had a guess, i think Sony is the next major company to go bancrupt. They cant run at loss forever.
If companies like Atari, Escom and Commodore can get broke, then companies like Sony can too.

Anyone noticed that JVC quietly? have merged with Kenwood?

I didnt know this.. When did this happen?

I dont know if sony will go bankrupt soon.. But they are struggling right now.. And you are right.. they are slowly but surely being edged out of every one of their strongholds.

But Sony is huge, and they have a hand in many different areas of entertainment.. So i wouldnt count them out just yet.
