Hey, great tuts.
Thought I'd share my experience with flashing my Hitachi 0078.

First, I bought the xeno top gear, as I read you need to reflash from time to time. Got that on no probs, but I couldnt get the drive into mode b with it.

After bangin my head against my wall several times, I took it off, and went into mode b straight away.

So, I flashed it and then re-put on the top gear, got a disc burning, and then played it fine - for 5 - 10 minutes and then i got the RROD.

Pissed off by this point, I presumed I had done a bad flash, a bad burn or you know it might even be that darn Top Gear.

Off with the top gear and wires back to original place, same disc now works with no RROD.

Dont know if it was just mine, but I DONT recommend flashing with the Xeno Top Gear.

And guys, can any one tell me will I ever need to re-flash or is that all done now? Cheers, and once again Thanx for the great tuts!

So what does modding my hard drive do exactly? and how do i make backups of my games what program do i use. Im quite intrested because my limited edition Halo 3 was scrathed in the case and im really worried about it not being playable!! someone help me! is it worth hacking?.

Yes its definately worth doing.
If you feel confident enough to open up your 360, then the rest is relatively easy. My first was a nightmare because of a dodgy Xeno Top Gear, but now thats in the bin, I have modded my own and my mates with no problems at all.

You modify the DVD drive by flashing w/ custom F/W.

it will probably be included with textbook or some other tutorial in the future (might be there now) but,i thought before i delete it from my harddrive i will make it avaiable here.

im pretty sure i want to either do this myself or get it done by someone else BUT id like to be able to plan my moves exactyl befroe going near anything..how can i tell...is opening the 360 the ONLY way to find out exactly which one it is?

if you can get your manufacture date and group code you can check it online against other user data and find out which drive you have

Is there a tutorial for flashing Benq with 0800 or do you follow the same method by using dos flash and ixtreme. I have the necessary files however I just wanted to make sure before proceeding.
