Using Xbox 360 backups on Xbox Live

For now, Xbox 360 Xtreme backup games work on Xbox live. We don't know when Microsoft will respond on the situation, but most likely they will. Use Xbox Live on your own risk, we don't support using Xbox Live by any means.

I'm planning to get a 360, and want to use Live as well.....
Now, if I use the firmware hack, will I still be able to use ORIGINAL games on Live while continuing to use Backups (Offline of course)?

Yes you can, yet its still at your own risk, as you never know if MS will release some kind of forced Dash update that detects modified Fw's.

Yikes. In that case I'd better hold off....

I just hope that they come up with a modchip-like device with an On/Off switch like the Original Xbox.... THEN I'll have to consider again.

    Thanks for the quick answer!

it is higly unlikely that MS will have a Forced Firmware Update If they did that so many ppl would be up to sue them it's not even funny. What they may do however is make some games or services only playable with the new firmware update. It is against the law for them to alter your machine without prior consent.

so exactly how does sony get away with it! If you have a psp and you want to play the newest game then you must update. BUT you do have the choice to upgrade. It is not something they do while you are sitting there playing a game and then they say oh btw we took the liberty of updating your firmware/software. If you think it works that way give me a good example and I have a good rebuttle (comeback)

It wouldn't surprise me if MS would be well within their rights to incorporate something into an update that stops the firmware flash from working, and that they would be under no obligation to tell the user that this was so, being that the mod is obviously not what they would think official and accepted use of the 360.

I think it probably depends on how 'out of hand' they think the situation becomes. Sony have been much more aggressive, being quick to update firmware updates which fix any exploits which allowed PSP users to use 'back-ups'. And there was also last years CD copy protection scandal.

So, lets say you go out and buy a brand new sports car and then you modify it the way you like. So the dealer finds out and comes to your house and removes all you have modified. Would he not be in trouble in the eyes of the law? Inm essence it is the same way with consoles. You PAID for this console and it is yours. (Your property to modifiy - You just can't legally benefit from this so called mod, in the eyes of the law) MS, Sony, or Nintendo do not have the right to change it without your permission. Since you mentioned the PSP I will use that. When you update does it not ask you do you want to update. Then you have the choice to accept or decline thier offer. While you don't get to play or use that new game or app it is still your right to say no.

I don't think the analogy is comparable.

Microsoft have a massive financial interest in people not being able to use the firmware mod, as while even if the mod itself is legal (I'm presume it is) it's use is legally dubious as it lends itself to piracy. Hence I would imagine that Microsoft would be well within their rights legally to put a stop to something that damages their business interests.

If the update which stops the firmware mod working is done without permission, then I imagine that Microsoft would be on legally shaky ground. But any update which did stop the firmware mod from working wouldn't need to inform the user of this, as as far as Microsoft are concerned the mod isn't accepted and common use of the 360.

If people were given the choice to update their 360's as with the PSP, I imagine that it work in a similar way insofar that unless you update you can't play new releases, thus rendering a non-updated machine obsolete.

You are right. We both are. In my above posts I was not saying that MS, Sony or anyone for that matter has to tell me in detail what their update will do, with the exception of console updates. Software and what not. I don't care if they update some security patches and stuff sunce that is for the most part helping me.
