FAQ: How do I get Download Play to work?

I'm tired of cross-posting... Before I answer this, let me say that while not all cases require this, an overwhelming majority does. 90% of all "not working" cases can be resolved with this, 9% are fixed by removing Soft Reset and 1% won't work. I will not speak for the cards I haven't used because that is how misleading information is presented. I can speak for the cards I have used (M3 CF/SD and G6 Lite).

If you are unable to play Download Play games when sending from your flashcart, you must flash receiving DS. The sending DS can be flashed or not, it doesn't matter. I repeat, the receiving DS must be flashed.

A passcard/superkey in the DS slot will not affect download play, how could it? If you plan on asking if having a passcard3 instead of flashme will work in the receiver, the answer is no.

There have been reports about EZ4/SC maybe working with specific games, but your best bet is to just flash the receiving DS.

Bleh. So this mean to do download play with an M3 I will probably need to buy a passme 2 to flash my friend's DS? That sucks.
Though I think that the GBA MP's download play works fine, which is good, becuase that's what I have. I hope that that is the case >.>

    Question

Let's forget about the Download play thing.... If I have 2 DS Lites, both have passcard and NDS cart (e.g. One use Supercard Lite + Superkey ; The other use M3Lite + Passcard3), can they play WiFi networked games (such as those which read "Multicard Multiplayer" on the upper-right corner on the back side of the NDS game box)?

What about DS-X? Doesn't that allow you to play via download play with an unflashed DS?

    Wink Simple answer ! ! !

IT DEPENDS ON THE GAME !!!

I have done download play using Pokemon Link(U) and Daigasso Band Brothers(J) to an UNFlashed DS many times.

But 95% of games require the receiving machine to be either flashed or using a superkey/Passme Device.

It depends on the coding of the game itself, Whether or not it relays the questions the the sending DS asking where its being sent from.

Simple answer is IF both receiving and Sending are Flashed/Passme'd NOTHING is asked and hence it works.
    Backwards Compatible PS3/ 320GB
    White PSP Slim/ 5.00 M33-6 + CR-5400 - 16 GB,
    Crystal XBOX/ v1.0 TSOP Flashed, XBMC + 320 GB,
    Sega Saturn/ Custom 50/60Hz + 4in1 Action Replay.

Hold up, i'm lost here with all these things you guys are talkin bout.
So what you're saying is that, well lets say I have 2 Nintendo DS,
one playing a Mario kart Rom on M3 Simply, and the other has no modding
what so ever(regular DS). If the regular DS picks download play from the menu, and the DS using the Mario Kart Rom is sending the download to be able to play together with the regular DS,
it won't work at all unless both DS's have the ROM on a flashcart?

I really need to know if it'll work if I did that(example above)
Sorry I'm a newb at this kinda stuff

lets see why we would rather get the flash carts working for dl play instead of buying the real game

cost of flash cart and 1gb sd card: ~$80
price of real ds game: ~$20 a peice

    i have 26 games on my flash cart, 12 of which are dl play mutiplayer so;
    12 x $20 = $240

i would rather just spend the $80, it would cost alot more to just buy the real game than to flash a ds, and its not a waste of time if you try to figure out problems like this for fun that is why homebrewing exists cuz people do it for fun

    Piracy talk is not allowed.

EDIT: User asked me to post this so I am:

"I have reread the post above and even thought it may sound like piracy, its not. I actually own all the games on my card but i just use the back-ups because the games belong to me and my two brothers so i bought a flash cart and a neo magic key to make back-up copies instead of dishing out another $300 to have two or more copies of each game which is nowhere near piracy because i own the real game."

For the record, it is still illegal to do this, you need to own a copy of the game for each backup, so 3 backups on 3 flash carts you need 3 copies of the original.
