GCOS 1.x Beta release. This beta is released now because the other features being worked on have no apparant resolve for the time being. With that being said, all I can say furthermore is.. THE BETA IS HERE. GO NUTS. ENJOY.

Check below... for all the notes on this release.

Oh and of course please grab the file from the thread - and post feedback good or bad on these forums or gamecubeos.com's

GCOS in a nutshell-------------------------------
GCOS stands for [G]ame[C]ube [O]perating [S]ystem.
It's a homebrew application for the GC, which can be used as a softmod or as a bios replacement on modchips. It gives users the ability to run homebrew from DVD, play imports, originals, and legal backups. It stacks up pretty well to many of the modchip bioses, possibly even surpassing them in some one or more areas. And what's best of all, it's absolutely free, with sources provided for many more people to look at or improve. If you paid for it then you have been ripped off!

This release is a BETA, things are of course going to be broken or untested. Why is it out now? Because I am suddenly short on free time again! When will the final 1.x be out? When most of the features in the still being worked on list are done and when lots of user feedback is seen on this release. However, even considering it a beta, it's quite alot more stable compared to 1.5 in alot of ways.


Features-------------------------------
Features that are completed:
- Boots on many setups with the one .dol
- Automatic Disc type detection (iso/multiboot/original/backup/etc)
- Boot .iso/.gcm straight from ISO9660 DATA DVD-R
- Audio Fix (for games like starfox/waverace/zelda collectors)
- New Drivecode
- XenoGC supported (DuoQ untested)
- Re-wrote entire disc boot structure (checks for pre-patched/lidopen etc)
- Modchip detection (bit buggy)
- New GUI
- Disc ripper skips garbage
- Set the language of the original ipl
- Chose between 2 disc/In game reload(WIP)/disable
- Displaying the game banner
- QoobPro Flash Exploration
- Fixed Dol upload code once again
- Cheat Engine (thx Fuzziqer Software)
- Wave Bird issue fixed
- Reboot to qoob bios if you tap reset in GCOS

Features still being worked on:
- Force Progressive scan on games (+Better NTSC/PAL forcing)
- Bump up the speed on the disc dumper (almost done)
- VGCe Flash Exploration + QoobSX support
- Real Time Clock is buggy (time never advances after a reboot)
- IGR for qoob users (since it's the easiest)

Features questioned:
- FTPd (Might go in to replace all of httpd)

Features removed:
- Mp3 support (way too much space wasted)
- Incorporation of an actual AR .dol file to it


Requirements-------------------------------
- A Gamecube
and one or more of the following
- PSO+BBA
- Action Replay
- Action Replay + SD CARD
- Action Replay Max Drive PRO
- Modchip (Viper/Qoob/Ninja/Tmbinc/Ripper)


MODCHIP USERS-------------------------------
XenoGC + DUOQ users:
- To use GCOS please run it through UDOLREL (But don't apply the xeno disable flag as GCOS does this on it's own.. unless you really want to)

Qoob Pro users:
To Flash it as a main bios:
- Flash the .gcb for main bios in the first block to replace the qoob bios.
- Run the update.dol from dvd (as a data disc) if you want to update it that way
To Flash it as a DOL:
- Put the DOL release of GCOS onto your flash memory via USB to run it this way
To Run it from DVD:
- Burn the GCOS 1.x.dol release onto a DVD data disc and run it from Qoob if you don't intend to flash

Qoob SX users:
- The only way to run this now is:
To Run it from DVD:
- Burn the GCOS 1.x.dol release onto a DVD data disc and run it from Qoob if you don't intend to flash

ViperGC Users:
- Flash the .vgc (For either extreme or normal)
- To Run from DVD just burn the normal .dol on a normal data dvd.

NinjaMod Users:
- Not sure if supported - but just update bank1 with the .NJM and it might work


SOFTMOD USERS-------------------------------
MaxDrivePro Method:
- Put the softmod .dol onto your MDP and boot it via the MDP disc

AR Method:
- Please look up samsons loader or the guide at www.gamecubeos.com

PSO:
- psoloadv2 or PSUL should work just fine (use the softmod .dol)

SDLOAD:
- use the softmod .dol and it should work fine


CHEAT ENGINE-------------------------------

NOTES:
Currently cheats must be added using a very dodgy interface but hey atleast they work.
A Cheat DB Loader is planned for next release, so until then, have fun inputting codes :P

Also, please note that cheats must be added one after the other, do not leave spaces or add them randomly

Sources are all under GPL. If you are going to re-use any of the code please give credit where needed and always remember to include the sources. Do not sell this code as you'd be breaking GPL.

Well, ULDOLREL isn't it a LINUX app ??? I run under Windows, ULDOLREL could be run into Windows please ?

If yes, where can I find UDOLREL please, I dont' find it !

Please answer, there is a long time I'm waiting for a GCOS who running on DuoQ, I think you will released the DOL file patched ...

There is a few time you said that It works ! How can you affirm this if you don't test this ????

I tested GCOS on my XenoGC Gamecube which also has a Qoob Pro. I have no time for udolrel or replying to these pm. The reason a beta was even released is cause I have no time for support.

It does run from XenoGC and DuoQ, It has been tested on a system with a XenoGC but the boot method wouldn't matter, that will always work. What was tested was if the drivecode worked with the XenoGC...

After having to answer your questions atleast twice a day on if it was nearing release I have finally released a beta version to get some feedback and this is the thanks I get.. How about you go and do something for a change.. like get udolrel and run it under cygwin.

Worked on GCoS briefly tonight and now XenoGC is supported (DuoQ untested).

I've been thinking about how to do this whole cheat system and one way i've thought of will require a few days to code (then that's if i'm succesful).

The problem about making a release now and one later is that it takes time to make every specific build..time that could be spent coding.. cause there's a few builds that will be released:
- Xeno DVD build
- Qoob/tmbinc modchip bios build
- ViperGC/ViperGCE (both the same build)
- Everything else will just use a simple DOL

On another note.. qoobSX users.. I will need someone to possibly "sacrifice" a qoobSX for the good of GCoS if you ever want to see it supported. What i mean by sacrifice is to run a program that will write over the main flash with GCoS which is risky but in theory SHOULD work.


I See "it takes time to make every specific build.." yes, but I agree that XenoGC/DuoQ specific Build was not take you a lot of time ... FUNNY ! (XENO DVD build ..... What a JOKE !)

Whatever ... NOW that I have a answer I will look for Cygwin ! ...


YEAH, You're right, when I was MP you for the first time, talking about XenoGC Support (and talking you about UDOLREL !!!) you was know that I run under Windows (as a lot of users), you add this message into the forum that was saying XenoGC supported, I WAS happy !

You know what I should have done? Release sources to get rid of people like you. Any binaries released ARE a privillidge so get over it if one version isn't there. I try hard enough for FREE I might add to make this work for everyone and if you don't like it that's too bad.

If you read before talking, you will undersatnd that for XenoGC/DuoQ users, we have to patch the DOL file with a program nammed UDOLREL ...

What's the problem ???

UDOLREL is a LINUX appl ! As 90% of users , I run under Windows and don't know a whole s**** about LINUX !

And so .... Im' not a noob in computers ...

I am laughtin' thinking about noob that trying to make GCOS works on a XenoGC/DuoQ ...

Good god, I find the new beta is released and instead of a thread full of undieing thanks to emu_kidid I find it full of bile from an ungrateful idiot because they have to do a tiny bit of work to get it onto their modchip. This program is FREE, he gets nothing for spending hours and hours on it, but without it the majority of us would be screwed at running backups.

Criticism is one thing, but what I see above isn't criticism. It's unnecessary to keep going on and on like a baby. You know the answer to getting it to work on your setup, so but your energies into that rather than having a pop at the ONLY person that works on GCOS.

I for one am delighted to see the new beta emu_kidid, I am sure 99.9% of the other GCOS users are. It's a pity this ungrateful bellend got to the thread first.....

- Download, Install, try to understand LINUX and UDOLREL then PATCH --> EASY !

- Download, Install, try to understand Cygwin and UDOLREL then PATCH --- > TOO EASY MAN !

And I agree so : that will take 2 seconds .... AS***** ! Shut Up !
