Some confirmation :

Can someone confirm me that I can't flash my normal Viper with this GCOS through DVD explorer (cobra 1.6) and then back to cobra through flashing with an explorer under gcos ?

In fact, would be great to burn a DVD with for example gcos1x.vgc + cobra16.vgc and then swap flashing

Works fine on Qoob Pro

However i have a few things (I know it's a beta, it's more like i give some feedback )

- Starting up a disc takes way longer then on QoobPro or Viper Extreme bios

- disc compatibility is lesser then the qoobpro
(i have a few games the qoobpro bios boots fine, gcos doesn't even boot, BUT the same games also don't run on Viper extreme bios, so it's not that bad )

To say, all games that run fine on Viper Extreme do run the same on Gcos, while game that used to run on my Qoob only now don't work anymore, BUT i have to say those games that don't work anymore where burned on cheap lesser quality media.

* A smaller prob, dunno if it's fixibale for PAL users!:

- NTSC Games when set to AUTO/NTSC the have a small black border on the left side of the screen (about 2cm wide)

- PAL games (that support 60Hz) screen is messed up when you choose PAL60
So you have to choose PAL or AUTO and then the game asks if you want 60Hz .
Somehow a PAL game booting in PAL on a PAL Cube also gives the 2cm black border on the left. I don't have this when booting the same game on my Viper Extreme or when i flashed back the Qoob Pro bios or on original games.

So a Descent screen calibration in Gcos would be nice for us PAL users (ok not that it's that worse , but better not )

GCOS 1.4 boots DVD+R by misc brands, but newer GCOS releases dont support DVD+R.
Will you re-add DVD+R support later?

Kyo13: Ever wonder why this shiny new version says "BETA" on it? Because it's not ready. This is the kind of thing you are supposed to expect with BETA releases. Deal with it.

Emu_Kidd: Ever considered private betas for donors? GCOS would remain free and you would remain awesome without having to deal with the crap.* I'd donate in a heartbeat.

*Edit: Actually, I can see how some donors might act "entitled" to things like Kyo13 wants just because they donated. At least the donors would get something like that ready before the public beta. I guess the staged beta rollouts are more appropriate for active product development and not someone with very little time.

This explains why i have the boot problems with this version
as I use only +R and GCOS 1.5 boots them ok

I must say I'm a little bit dissapointed because when I boot the gcos.qcb bios on my cube with a backup disc inside the disc spins and then goes to the menu. I thought it should boot the game but it doesn't. Fortunetly it boots after selecting 'boot a dvd' (it takes bout two spins to happen). I also tried an ISO with roms and emus that worked flawless on the qoob bios but this time even selecting 'boot a dvd' didn't help. The disc contiunesly spinned and stopped.

I have a qoob pro ofcourse. I'm not a dev or something but maybe it has something in common with that shagkur helped you with the drive code - genesis plus ver. 2006-10-12 gave me some probs with my discs on qoob pro and it was entirely based on the newest libogc.

EDIT: Oh and I use RITEK G05 DVD+R

Just tested... on my pal gc with normal viper, everything is simply perfect.

Just launch the .VGC from the DVD explorer of the cobra bios

Can I get some info regarding the structure of the Cheat DB you plan to use?
I already provide cheat libraries for Viper and Qoob users, and I would certainly be interested in creating some for GCOS users as I know there are many out there who would make use of them.

And to everyone else, thanks for the constructive feedback. One thing I've obviously noticed is that DVD+R isn't working and this needs to be looked at. I can see how it was missed considering I only have -r to test with.

Kyo13: you need to STFU, seriously... emukid's job is to work on GCOS, not to spoon feed you instructions on how to make it work on a chip he didn't develop.

emukid: I'm happy you finally made the decision to continue work on GCOS. I hope incidents like these don't discourage you. There are more people who are greatful about this release, than there are hateful.

Unfortunately, I don't have my own GC with AR and BBA setup at the moment, so I won't be able to try it out for a while.
