Well mine died this morning, I phoned MS and they told me its out of warranty, but because its 3RLOD they will will repair/replace it.
I just had this console just over a year.......it was its birthday xmas day!
thats actualy incorrect, all 360's are covered by a 3 year warranty for 3 red lights of death only.rrod.there is a 1 year warranty but, what it actualy covers i am not sure, stuff that breaks down due to wear and tear are not covered as far as i am aware.
that is why on site or on the phone they will tell you it is out of warranty if it is over a year old cos it is.even perhaps for a console that is less than a year old.it will remain out of warranty until it has been inspected and if the repair is warranted it will then be in warranty.
at the end of the day it depends what you send the console in for.rrod covered by 3 year warranty everything else bar a few things are covered by 1 year warranty.

i have a 9/06 console. It has been modded and xclamps mod done ..Plus i have duct tape holding the dvd drive cover on(failed clear drive mod) i started getting 3rlod and did the xclamp mod ..now it wont even start up. I dont have the old clamps and thus cant reflash the drive . Im in usa so prolly ship it to texas.. what you think my chances are ? warranty sticker looks pretty good..I cut it at the seem and you cant tell.. also i have case tool which doesnt leave to much marks. ...
also has any one actually been billed for the shipping ?if their unit was deemed not warranty?
The primary method of hacking the 360 is without a modchip, basically you open up the 360 connect the DVD-drive to your PC and flash a new firmware that allows backups to run. The modchip method would probably be easier for the average user but I prefer flashing the DVD drive myself.

Update
After i heard that i would get a new one i decided to call xbox support for the status. The guy told me that my xbox was banned and that against policy was and that i would not get a new xbox. i freaked out and told them that it was send in 2 times before and nothing was wrong and they helped me out with the problems i had (It was banned and rrod the first time i send it in). He said that my xbox was banned after i got it back. That could not be true because after i got it back the first time i never got back on xbox live (no banned codes) so i said that if it's banned that was because something had gone wrong at the repair center. Afetr some dicussion he told me that a support manager would call me within 24 hours to explain why it was banned and why i should not get a new xbox. I wasn't called within 24 hours but after a couple days i had a voicemail from a manager that told me that they cleared their system and that i was not banned anymore. Then after a couple of days more another manager told me on my voicemail that my new xbox was on it's way over and that they had found out that it was banned in the first place but because they hadn't found out when they should i would get a new one. he also said i should be extremely lucky for getting a new one...
Quite a hassle but i will have my new xbox here within a couple of days
I'm from the Netherlands and the xbox had been send to the repair centre in Germany. I recieved my xbox today, and it was defenitely a refurbished one (if u look close u see some marks where the hd was etc. , 26-11-2006) allthough they told me that i would get a new one... ah well.... i got a new xbox. I'm not going to bother them again.....
ok, just phoned MS and was told my 360 has been repaired, I did ask her what was done to it, but she didnt say.........just give me ups tracking number.
phoned ms on 31st Dec, got it picked up on the 2nd........very impressed with the speed of it all....
360 was over a year old(sammy 25), flashed, still had foil sticker and was very well looked after.......
now I wonder what drive ill get!!!!
Well, my story is like this.
I sent my banned xbox360 back to M$ for a RROD repair. I got it back and its not banned anymore BUT it has a "network configuration error" and refuses to connect to live.
Its getting sent back to them as soon as they send me the details.
It also came back with a BenQ drive. So, I'm debating to not get it repaired as it can be modded nicely now and there is no way it can get banned. LOL
I refuse to pay to play online as I've got a PC if I want to play online and thats free. I will also be getting a PS3 in the near future which is also free. Oh, and when online games come to the Wii I will also play them for free.
So, yes, if you send a banned 360 back you get it unbanned.
