Exclamation Nintendo 3DS vs. PlayStation Vita

3DS vs. Vita - Head to Head Battle of the Handhelds - Which one will outlast the other?

We all know Nintendo is killing the Vita in overall sales in the Japan market. But some crazy guy decided to test the battery life on his 3DS against the PS Vita this is the result!

Here is breakdown on the system setup for the big battle:

PS Vita 3G+WiFi in a $20 Sony Vite stand
    • 2210 mah battery
    • Flight mode (all WiFi and 3G off)
    • Brightness min
    • Volume muted

3DS in a Hori 3rd party stand (Nintendo one not yet available launching free with Kid Icarus)
    • 1300 mah battery
    • WiFi off
    • Brightness 1 + power saving mode
    • 3D off
    • Volume minimum

Both systems were playing the game title 'F1 2011' so here goes (watch the timers above the consoles):

Our thanks to 'billysastard' for digging up this crazy battle of the handhelds!

    Viita VS 3DS

That was interesting and sad at the same time sad the fact that some bugga took the time to video it but at the same time interesting in the fact that the Vita's battery life is pretty poor at little over 4 hours gonna be a bit crap on a long haul flight !!!!!!!

IMO, not bad. Yes, the 3DS went a little longer but the VITA screen was huge and bright by comparison, not to mention the more detailed graphics. Still, the high price and the proprietary memory cards means I won't be getting a VITA unless it becomes hugely popular with tons of great games or if it gets hacked.

Meh, 3DS screen looks washed against the Gorgeous PS Vita OLED 5" HD amazing vivd screen....

One of the MAIN reasons I was disappointed in the 3DS...(-___-)"
Hope they improve it in 3DSLite (like with prev generation), and would be glad to buy one again!

Can't waaaaait for PS Vita to be released here!!!

lol at complaints about the 3DS screen being dull compared to the Vita, how about 2 screens versus 1 as the touch screen is displaying the map, 2 displays and still lasts longer by a fair decent ammount and on a lower power battery, if everything there was equal as in both had the same batteries as well (2 screens v one balances out any screens size brightness comparissons) then in all likleyhood the 3DS would have lasted 2x+ as long as the Vita.

That said, was there ever any doubt that nintendo would make a handheld that wasn't good on battery life, all of them since the original gameboy have been good on battery life. It goes to show that nintendo know there is more to a handheld than just pretty gfx, games tailored for the handheld audience and a system that will last a decent stretch when used as a portable gamign device.

    Next Gen Console - i7 4770k@4.7GHZ + H100i, Z87E-ITX, Sapphire Radeon R9 290X , 16GB Crucial Ballistix Elite 1866@2400, Crucial m4 240GB mSATA SSD, 1TB Seagate SSHD, 64GB OCZ Agility 3 SRT cache, in a red Bitfenix Prodigy.

Re-Shelled Windows Steam Box/XBMC HTPC (Stream Box would be more accurate) - A8-6500, F2A88XN-WIFI, 4GB Crucial Tactical Tracer 1600, 120GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD, in a Thermaltake Element Q mini-ITX.

If you want to compare it this way, don't forget the more powerful internals inside the PS Vita compared to the 3DS!
And the 2 screen VS one screen argument is meh, nothing impressive, I would take the 5" OLED ANYDAY over the outdated washed LCDs!

Also, if nintendo does know that battery life matters, few/couple hours of heavy gaming is nothing impressive to mention...

Until nintendo or any other company releases a "HANDHELD" capable of +12 Hours straight heavy graphic-intensive gameplay worth of time; saying company "X" cares about good battery means nothing!

thats because the vita screen is much better, oled is far superior to lcd and nothing can change that, although obviously on an lcd with the brightness turned to its lowest is barely brighter than a gameboy screen so turning it back up does make it look a lot better than in this video, its just that oled is so far ahead that it will take a real work of genius to make it look shite

Anyone who wants to add me feel free to do so

Steam, xbl & miiverse = ImpaledGryphon
    psn = Impaled-Gryphon

That would again only be a worthwhile arguement if the game was visibly an improvement over the 3DS version, which it isn't so it GPU for GPU in the tested game is pretty much the same. You may also want to take into consideration that a 3DS has to render 3 displays, touch screen and 2 for the 3D display (if you have ever used 3D on the likes of a PC you would know it's a major performance hit as it has to render everythign 2x) so I'd say it's negligabel just how much more powerfull the vita GPU is given it can dedicate it's runtime to at best half the work. Also throw int he cost of a 5" OLED that is 3D capable, and the price would go through the roof, look how the 3DS sold when it was sold at launch price and imagine how it would have sold if it incorporated a 5" 3D OLED. yes nintendo do know battery life matters as not only do they do all the above, they do it for longer than the Vita on a battery practically 40% lower in power, another cost saving factor. There is more to hand held gaming than pretty gfx, and doing more for much less is a very important factor int hat, one that gets overlooked by GFX whores.

I'd be intrested to see how both last with everythting cranked up, full 3D and screen brightness, as thats more likley how both would be used in real world usage.
