    Dont forget the bootmii backup.

Honestly though I see this as a pointless update and not recommended. I believe wiibrew.org has an app called wiiscu to update just the store channel.

wiiscu doesn't actually update the new required system files. It also doesn't download the actual new 4.2 system menu.

Just make sure not to update IOS60 from Nintendo's servers, the new version is a stub and will brick your 4.0 machine if installed...

IOS60 is System Menu 4.0/1 so I doubt any dev would have used it in a game...

I'd like to point out that this update does NOTHING and there is no point in running it. Only thing that 4.2 does is allow you to use the Shopping Channel, which can probably be installed manually...

No, all the update contained was a bunch of stub IOS and a few things to remove homebrew. It has no benefits what so ever...

Does this new firmware 4.2 have to do anything with the new games that came out this and last year or is it for something else

Its only a "fix" to remove all forms of homebrew. Most new games can work with any system menu as long as you have the righ IOS files or homebrew.

It's pretty easy to self update to 4.2 safely.

Use NUSD to grab the updated IOSs and the system menu (except for IOS 60, 70, and 249)

Use Dop-Ios to grab Ios 70, and trucha bug patch it.

Then use WAD manager to install the IOSs you grabbed with NUSD.

Then you will be at 4.2 with IOS 60 & IOS 249 intact.

Actually, I suggest just downloading the updated shop channel using WiiSCU to get the shop channel.

Either that or just download and install IOS 70 and the system menu if you must upgrade then use WiiSCU for everything else.

I know certain modchips have region issues due to more rigorous checks in the system menu without homebrew.

You should still be able to do the region change as long as it IS NOT korean.

    The changelog from hackmii:
