Apple didn't say but a benchmark test did it.

The same Vietnamese tech site that filmed the first ever new iPad unboxing video confirmed it.

Just a few minutes ago, we informed you about the first ever 3rd gen iPad unboxing video by the Vietnamese site tinhte.vn, now they have confirmed via Geekbech app test that the total amount of RAM available is 1GB and the A5X Processor clock speed is 1GHz (Dual core, this means 2Ghz. Quad core for GPU).

Just a quick remembering note: The iPad 2 has 512MB of RAM and the original iPad only 256MB with clock speeds of 1Ghz (Dual core but not quad-core for graphics) and 1Ghz (single core) respectively.

Our thanks to 'Kaos2K' for another Apple iPad update!

I'm sorry, did I miss something? Isn't that pretty crappy for a tablet? And the ipad 1 and 2 were even crappier? Why the hell do people buy these things?

kind of proves my theory, a cheap C50 netbook from 12 months ago was not only cheaper but still faster nad more capable. My Acer Aspire One C50 net book with 300GB HDD and 4GB RAM, cost me £350 over 12 months ago, you can get a much faster E450 based one now and run whatever OS you like on there that has real world applications, no codec resriction, storage can be upgraded, not to mention real games with real controls etc.

I suspect the success of the iPhad is mainly for the same reasons as the Wii, it's basic and while it lacks any real depth it's easy to use by the clueless, apple should merge with Fisher Price as they seem to have the same marketting policy and product design.

You are totally out of focus with that comment. If you want to compare things, compare the same of its kind. We are talking about TABLETS, not netbooks or bigger computers. The new iPad is a very powerful machine than runs smoothly with iOS inside. It is designed to be portable and almost last all day (I doubt you can say the same with laptops). It is not a substitute for a daily use computer, it is an extra and very useful in mobility (bed, bus/metro, beach, trips, hotel rooms, vacations etc..).

No its not. 1 GB is max for tablets today.
They buy them because they offer a great consumer experience.

People don't buy iPads because of the specs. Pretty much all of my friends have iPads, and not a single one is not happy with it. And most have M.Sc in CS. I wouldn't call any of them clueless.

I'm pretty sure of if those who said that the iPad is crap, tested one for a couple of days, they'll change their minds...

the cpu may not be the highest spec'd out there, but the quad core gpu, 1gb ram and the crazy high res screen make the new ipad hands down likely one of the best spec'd tablets out there overall.

not sure how anyone could possibly think its not good spec wise.

      nope ;)

other than as a lifestyle object it offers nothing but a whole lot less than a good netbook / laptop offers and without any proper controls for gaming or keyboard for more serious use.

As i said, a tablet is not intended to susbtitute a bigger computer but complement it. Read a book on a laptop is a pain in the ass, surf the web laying in the bed same thing, watch a movie in mobility idem and i can continue like this all day.

And just for you to know, i completely stopped using my netbook since the moment i got my hands in the first gen iPad. You never know what a tablet like the iPad can do for you until you test it.

fyi tablet sales are being counted as pc sales so in my book they can be compared to a netbook or pc if the sales count as one...

Since when sales charts dictate what a tech product is one of other kind? A tablet is not a PC and can't be compared with one because they are intended to different uses even they share common ones. You don't carry a laptop or a desktop PC to the beach, for example...

Anyway, if you're happy thinking that way, good for you ;). I'm pretty happy with my iPad. I use my laptop and desktop computer for the things it were intended to.

well since its aimed almost directly at the higher end netbooks pricewise i really can see it as a compliment when its pushing to be a replacement.

oddly if i want to read books i try to read them on a book as for surfing the net in bed, i'd have to ask why would you do that (other than porn) but hell if i wanted to then yes, i'd just plug a netbook in via its STANDARD HDMI and use the projector we watch movies in bed to display it, as for movies on the go well yes, in car i can use an STANDARD (micro)SD CARD to watch on the ice unit and otherwise i can use the same microsd card in a pro duo adapter on my psp, i too could go on all day ;)

I do that to comfortably check my mail, the daily news when i woke up (or before going to sleep) or even this forum without the hassle of going to my desktop and turn my iMac on to do that. And yeah, it is also cool for porn ;).

I can do all you said with this and this (i have both if you were asking).

You don't like the iPad and are Ok with your netbook and psp? good for you. I prefer my tablet much more :).

Thats great! Sounds like a good setup! But remember, not every has the same preferences. I had a netbook before I got the iPad. I sold it, because I didn't like it. That doesn't mean that people who DO like their netbooks are wrong in any way. We just don't share opinions. I also have a Macbook Pro, I never use it in bed, but always bring it on trips.

As for not being able to do serious work with en iPad, no, thats true. It doesn't replace a computer. Thats why I have a MBP as well.
But for all kind of casual computing, the iPad is my go to device (unless I'm sitting by my desktop computer of course).

I had every form of tablet device out there.

personally I think they are great for browsing and keeping up on email and tweets and stuff like that.

But they fail when it comes to hard core cut & paste and editing of previous content or correcting new content you are writing.

In my case writing up news storys and posting them does not work no mattter what, yes it can be done, but speed is an issue, the good old-fashion desktop setup or netbook handles that just fine.

I have yet to try a bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse setup for either my apple junk or android tablets, maybe that would change, but then if you are carrying around all that, just get a netbook it makes it same.

Yep, I have exactly the same issue. And that's where the notebook comes handy.

But I also agree with Kaos, tablets aren't meant to be a susbtitute to PC. So I also use it for simple thinks like web browsing, relaxing with games/music/videos and other stuff on-the-go.

I'll put myself in the group whohave used them for more than afew days and find them pointless compared to a netbook ( 12 motnhs ago I would have seen netbooks as pointless compared to alaptop as well, but then netbooks have come a long way), but then I favour funtionality, compatibility and real software flexibility over a touchscreen phone with a bigger screen, and no phone.

try a touch screen flip screen netbook, cheaper than an ipad by far, longer usefull life as it's a PC as well, no middle man software hardware, can dualboot android if you really want the super simplistic design (tho windows 8 will make that a moot point it seems), not severly gimped onthe hardware/software front (especially storage), just all around more usefull and better value for money

      http://www.gogodigital.co.uk/dell-inspiron-duo-sparta-1090-9623-10-1-touchscreen-flip-netbook-1.html

not fantastic but gives you and idea.

Get somthing like an E450 based one, slap in 4GB of ram if it doesn't have it, and you not only have everything an iPad and netbook has but you also have a proper portable media centre you can use on the TV (with full codec support, like the klite pack with hdmi with 3D support if thats your thing). You also have a nice wad left inthe bank as you didn't need to pay the inflated price for the 64GB iPad, infact you have change if you want to spend the same to get a 128GB+ solid state drive. it's just win win
