    Hi All

I am trying to fit a Wasabi DX to a PAL Wii with firmware 4,2e. Modded Wii plays originals but won't read backups; disc spin down. Do I need to patch the IOS-70 to put the trunca(?) fix in or is there some other way to get this working? The LEDs on the Wasabi seem to do the right thing but it just will not read any backups.

    TIA

Sounds like you have the new D3-2 drive
It will not read any back ups from disc
You can play your games from an external hard drive though :)

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply - I checked; it's a D2E drive chip.

Also, when I powerup without a disc and press eject three times, the Wii hangs rather than giving me a virtual game-cube disc. Before I go through the hassle of getting the Wasabi DX checked out, I wondered if 4.2e stopped (hard) mods from working?

    Thanks in advance

Cant speak for your chip but other chips work with the latest firmware so it's not a wholesale block if indeed they are blocked at all.

Got a very similar problem, its a PAL Wii with a Wasabi DX firmware is version 4.2E, it plays original games no problem "backup" games it reads PAL versions but anything else it just wont see and even when it sees the PAL version it wont let me play the game so I have put a chip in my Wii and gained absolutly nothing.
Someone I know told me it might be the firmware on version 4.2E thats blocking my "backup" games.

    Cheers

If 4.2 is blocking region free then install either startpatch or preloader and enable region free.

    WASP key and 4.2E

Sorry for crashing this thread, but I am so frustrated for not finding a real answer for this.
Will there be a problem if I update my Wii via Internet to 4.2E and have a modchip? I only have PAL backups.

I heard that region free is disabled and other issues so I dont suggest upgrading. Also there is an increased risk of bricking because they update boot2 using "dodgy" code.

    WASP key and 4.2E

Please, can anyone - who has tried it - give som feedback? Will I have issues beyond blocking of region free if I upgrade to 4.2E with a WASP key?
