The PS4 piracy scene has previously been limited mainly to modshops in the Brazilian area that had the game-sharing setup, but now a 6 wire modchip that works on 4.72 has been developed to make the process easy for the end-user to share games.

What does this chip do exactly? Does it have a modded firmware on it? Or is it glitching out the hypervisor or something like that?

I wonder if it's like a ODD mod chip, injecting the replacement machine id into RAM, possibly using some kind of debug feature.

From what I understand, it's mostly for sharing between multiple accounts. You need someone that has a bunch of downloaded (purchased) games from the PSN, you clone his/her HDD and then you play those games on your machine (probably either using their account or just being offline). Brazilians have been doing this since 2015, except with a Raspberry Pi.

Edit: No HDD cloning required, but you do need to share the PSN password with the "group". And Sony could block it and ban your account (and ban your console by console id). You'd void the console's warranty, get banned and lose any of your "legit" games. Cool.
