I have the original PS3 and thinking of upgrading it's hard drive as it is a great media player.

    My questions are as follow:

    1. What is the maximum size it can read?
    2. What are the other specs.

Any tips and pitfalls when purchasing a hard drive would be greatly appreciated.

There is no size limit and the only real pitfall is some hdd's are slightly too big to fit the slot. It seems from reading about you get no real advantage with faster rpm speeds. When looking to buy check the buyers reviews or if none available of help then look up the model number on play.com, overclockers.co.uk and ebuyer.com as most of the 2.5" hdd's on these sites have been commented on about ps3 fitting.

I bought a 320Gb drive from Scan, works perfectly. Very easy to do the swap.

WD 500GB, looks pretty attractive to me. Any comments on that drive?

I have two of these 320GB HDD's, one in a 40GB and one in a 80GB. One was origionally in my 60GB launch until YLOD (heat problem, NOT HDD.) -

My mate also has this 500GB in his 80GB -

Both are fantastic with exactly the same function and speed as the origionals but with shed loads more storage. Buy either of these with confidence and shop around for best prices now you have the model numbers.

    Hope this helps, good luck.
