According to unconfirmed reports, MS has banned approximately 600,000 Xbox 360's in their latest wave of bans. Apparently MS are aiming to ban 1 million modified Xbox 360's by the time Christmas is over. Seems like a Merry Christmas!

<blockquote>
A conversation with a friend who works for a call center that handles an Xbox 360 account has yielded a disturbing truth: Microsoft has started its annual Xbox Live banning spree and it has disabled 600,000 accounts so far in the US and Canada.

The target of the banning spree are mainly people who have modified their consoles to play pirated games. My trusty source says that they have been given instructions to push for a million banned accounts by the time the holidays are over.</blockquote>

Modern Warfare 2 certainly hasn't disappointed as it has a meta-critic score of 96. A number of reviews have awarded the title 100 percent while some have gone for the mid-low 90 range claiming that the title does little to redefine things rather builds on what was previously done.

As you may know, MS has started a new wave of 360 bans and this has angered many pirates. So much so that the pirates actually made threatening calls to the director of Xbox Live's policy enforcement. Resultingly, the respective individual (Stephen Toulouse) stepped into an IRC channel where the problem seemed to start from and pleaded that the threatening calls to him and his family should stop.

You can read the full transcript over at <a href="http://burn360.net/xbox360/pirates-pass-threats-stephen-toulouse/" target="_blank">Burn360.net</a>. And it definitely looks like this is legitimate because Stephen Toulouse' Twitter contains the word 'cheesecake' as he was asked to post this on his page as proof it really is him.

A police officer from the UK has been found guilty of stealing PS3 games from a store where he was being paid to protect. The thief snuck PS3 games in his hat and then transfers them to under his stab vest to avoid setting off the alarms.

<blockquote>
Peter Cokell, 34, from Bristol UK, was found guilty of theft after he was caught on CCTV shoplifting from the store he was being paid to protect, in June this year.

The footage shown at his trial, shows him taking two PS3 game in his hat to the back of the shop. He then places the games (Call of Duty 5 and Killzone 2), underneath his stab vest whilst walking out of the shop without setting off the alarm.

A security guard, Gary Sutton who witnessed the crime confronted the police officer, telling him that he had seen him take the two games, to which the police officer replied:

"He had the games but could not get hold of them due to where they were now locked up."</blockquote>

A pirate who advertised his services of Modern Warfare 2 and an Xbox 360 BEFORE the street launch of the game has been busted by Activision thanks to the help of an online detective they hired. Apparently the whole process took less than a week for him to become busted and those who commit piracy on a large scale have been sent a shocking warning.

<blockquote>“This kid was in a position to sell thousands of these,†Holmes said.

del amoPolice interrogated the runner, who led them to Del Amo’s home. They then arrested Del Amo yesterday (pictured right). Del Amo’s attorney has not returned a call for comment. The whole process, from finding the first tip to the bust, took less than a week. While the operation snagged a perpetrator, it didn’t move fast enough to prevent the massive copying of the game on the torrents on the Internet.

“Hopefully it is a lesson,†said Holmes. “If you try to do piracy on a large scale, you will get caught. When you use the...

A website has gone and compared the NetFlix service on the PS3 to that on the Xbox 360 and report back that things are pretty much the same. While the Xbox 360's version is a bit quicker with loading times, the PS3 version has its own benefits such as being able to go the browser and search to add a DVD to the queue as well as instantly watch it.

Nintendo's Satoru Iwata has admitted that piracy on his platforms is a cat and mouse chase as all the time underground hackers find a new solution. But he noted that Nintendo will always fight legally and through technology to prevent hackers.

<blockquote>
They tend to become a cat-and-mouse chase. As the piracy itself is underground, someone somewhere finds out the solution to evade our measures. When we shut one hole of the mice, they have dug a new one somewhere else.

“We have acknowledged that this is an endless battle, and we believe the best measure is to keep fighting it technologically and legally.

"As for the details of specific measures, I'll refrain from disclosing them here, as this conversation will be public online and the pirates will be able to find. I will however promise to keep acting legally and technologically, with patience.â€</blockquote>

Tesco's online division has currently priced some old Xbox 360 games at crazily low levels. Among the titles available for just 3.97 UK pounds each are PrizeFighter Boxing as well as Chronicles of Narnia. Perhaps 3.60 pounds would've been a better price?

Another piece of unofficial concept art has emerged of what a Xbox 360 handheld may look like. This design includes a secondary touch screen display, a directional pad and buttons just like the 360 controller. It looks a bit similar to the DS Lite as well as the Motorola Droid.

During an interview with GTTV, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime stated that there is no Wii HD based on reports that analyst Michael Pachter said there would be one coming. However, it would be very surprising for Reggie to confirm such a product as obviously Nintendo will do it when the time is right. Moreover, many more senior executives in Japan have been talking about Wii HD possibilities for quite some time now.

You can listen to Reggie's comments at about 19 minutes in on <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/77?ep=77" target="_blank">GameTrailers.com</a>.

Reggie Fils-Aime has made a huge claim - that is that the New Super Mario Bros. will outperform Modern Warfare 2 on one system by the time January 2010 NPD data comes out. Given the pulling power of Mario, we don't expect that to be too difficult on second thought.

<blockquote>Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, offered his own thoughts about Mario Bros. Wii’s sales on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV and said that it will outperform Modern Warfare 2 on one system by the time the January 2010 NPD data rolls by. We’ll be posting the full quote from Reggie shortly.</blockquote>

Nintendo seems to be thinking ahead with this though as not every game needs the HD polish.

<blockquote>Here we have a new nugget of information that indicates that Nintendo is going to go HD with the Wii. Company executives have noted that it it's all about being flexible depending on the game's content. For example, there is little point in making Pikmin in HD but other games may well be more suitable for such treatment.

Takeda - “If we can find out the most appropriate medium, between SD and HD, and flexibly move around them depending on the game's contents, it will be good, I think.â€

Miyamoto - “Regarding the question of SD or HD, it must depend on each software. For example, we have to ask ourselves if HD is really necessary to develop Wii Fit. Won't HD be better for the games like Pikmin? The developers should choose the most appropriate graphical format depending on the software they make. To Nintendo, our theme is how we can prepare the SDK library to cater...

An analyst has provided an interesting though that the Wii has saved the PS3. But how you may ask? By the Wii blocking potential sales of the Xbox 360 and limiting the chance for Microsoft's machine to become a run-away success.

<blockquote>
“The main danger Sony faced was that the Xbox 360 would become embedded as the system of choice. Instead consumers flocked to the Nintendo Wii. The Xbox 360 had solid sales, but they have not been enough to give Microsoft anywhere near a breakout market position,†the report explains.</blockquote>
