A 16 year old boy has become the youngest ever SOLO pilot in the UK and it's all down to the Xbox he says. Apparently, the Xbox generation as it be known has great hand-eye co-ordination due to playing video games and this skill comes in very handy when learning to fly!

<blockquote>Simon said: ‘I was worried about the weather yesterday but today it’s been perfect because there’s nil wind and good visibility.

‘I’ve trained about five schoolboys before. They tend to pick it up more quickly than adults.

‘But that’s the Xbox generation - their hand-eye coordination is better.

‘James is very professional and very cautious which is what you’re looking for.’ James said: ‘I do love to play computer games and always go on the Xbox when I’m round friend’s houses.

‘I do think it’s helped me with my hand-eye coordination - our generation is very lucky in that way.’ His mum Bridgette, 52, said: ‘We’re very proud of him indeed, it’s a...

With Sony in particularly placing a new found emphasis on their online services, you might think MS were a little 'scared'. But they have statated recently that 'no one can touch' their beloved XBOX LIVE service and come close to their offerings. Time will tell boys.

<blockquote>With the Big Three all hyping new online services for their home consoles, no longer is it all about the games. But Microsoft believes last week's Xbox Live update, coinciding with 360 hitting 10 million sales in Europe, shows "no one can touch" the company's online offering.

Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz in London last week, Microsoft EMEA vice president Chris Lewis claimed his firm's Autumn update - bringing Last.fm, Twitter, Facebook and Zune Marketplace to 360 - showed the company's ability to "reinvigorate the system... in a way that nobody else can." </blockquote>

As we all know, Nintendo has been making quite an effort to fight against DS flash carts. However, their complaints against devices such as the R4 have been dismissed by a Spanish Judge who ruled that the respective devices can actually ADD functionality to the DS and it's not all about piracy!

<blockquote>Spanish copyright law includes an anti-circumvention clause, but as Leo Martins alerts us, a judge in Salamanca, Spain has taken a much more nuanced view of it in a case pitting Nintendo against Grupo Movilquick, who produced alternative cartridges for Nintendo DS devices. The judge's ruling (translated from the original) appears to find that the alternative cartridges do, in fact, circumvent Nintendo's DRM and can be used for "pirating" games, but also extend the utility of the devices for perfectly legal purposes. For that reason, the judge dismissed the lawsuit (translation from the original) noting that it doesn't make sense that the law would be intended to say that only...

Things just got very interesting! Datel has filed a lawsuit against MS over the blocking of their memory cards. The lawsuit asserts that MS purposely blocked Datel memory units in order to prevent customers getting better value for money and limiting competition in the marketplace. Moreover, the suit goes on to assert that Microsoft's updates purposely block out third party accessories in order to exert market power.

According to a Playstation fan website, a new PSP aka the PSP '2' will hit next year and feature PowerVR SGX543 graphics. Apparently the respective console has been in development since 2008 and will compliment the newly released PSP Go and phase out the PSP 3000.

<blockquote>According to BSN, the new generation of portable technology from Sony will indeed arrive next year and feature PowerVR SGX543 graphics. We learn that past rumors were also mostly true, as their sources tell us the PSP2 has been in development since 2008 and exactly one year ago today, Sony unofficially announced the selection of Imagination Technologies' SGX graphics processor. Earlier today, we heard something similar in regards to the potential tech leaks for the PS4 and new PSP, which is starting to become clearer and more legitimate. It also seems obvious that Sony will push forward with the freshly released PSP Go and replace the PSP-3000 with the PSP2...although we're starting to wonder if the PSP Go...

Nintendo has offered an interesting point on the imminent arrival of Project Natal and PS3's WAND motion controller. They noted that if everyone starts doing the same thing, then the whole industry is less unique which is ultimately a bad thing in the entertainment industry.

<blockquote>When asked if Wii had now lost its unique selling point, Miyamoto replied: "Well, I should say that it could be taken as a compliment if others are following suit, by saying Nintendo was right in choosing a certain direction. But if you ask me if that is going to be good for the entire business, I really don't know."

"If everyone else is going to do exactly the same thing, unfortunately in this entertainment business that means less uniqueness, and uniqueness is what Nintendo has tried to realise."</blockquote>

According to reports, the PS3's CELL processor is 'dead in the water' and will never be used in the PS4. Apparently, the CELL line will be terminated and the current PoweXcell 8i is the last one in the series.

<blockquote>The PS3’s innovative ‘Cell’ processor won’t be used in the PS4, according to reports this morning, claiming the chip is “dead in the waterâ€. Apparently German website Heise Online has quoted IBM’s Vice President of Deep Computing, David Turek, saying the planned successor to the current processor, slated to have two PowerPC processors and 32 SPEs, will not be released. Extrapolated, then, you can summise that the Cell processor line is terminated, with the current PoweXCell 8i the last one off the production line.</blockquote>

Legendary Nintendo game creator Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that Nintendo wouldn't employee him now if he was fresh out university. He noted that Nintendo is starting to recruit only from the top-tier universities and Miyamoto notes that by today's standards, he would not get into the company at all.

<blockquote>Speaking to Edge, Miyamoto said: “Nintendo has become one of those companies that graduates from colleges and good universities really want to work for.

“Because of that, the competition’s really become so fierce for positions. And that means that a lot of the recent recruits for Nintendo have tended to have the higher degree from the prestigious colleges and universities and whatnot.

“I often say to Mr Iwata: ‘If I was applying for a job here today, I, with my actual college degree, would probably not have been employed by Nintendo’.â€

Miyamoto assured the industry that he still looks out for those with qualities that aren’t reflected by...

If you're a fan of soccer, you will no doubt be aware of 'Le hand of God' by Henry which led to France's crucial goal in the world cup qualifier against Ireland. Patrice Evra has rubbed salt into the Irish wounds by claiming that France will give them a rematch - on the Playstation!

We don't think the people of Ireland will be too happy with such remarks.

According to internet reports, an executive from Microsoft has confirmed the next Project Gotham Racing game is in development. Tom Burt noted that the development team came to ask him if they could use his Tesla roadster to record a variety of sounds for both PGR and Forza.

<blockquote>A Microsoft Executive has confirmed that the next PGR game is already in development via a blog post.

Tom Burt was posting on the ‘Customers’ blog over at Tesla and confirmed he was asked to supply sounds for both the PGR and Forza teams with his Tesla Roadster:

“A team of sound engineers from Microsoft Game Studios (some working on Forza, some on Project Gotham Racing) asked if I was willing to take my Roadster to a track so they could record a variety of sounds. Some time ago they had the opportunity to record Tesla motor noises when a prototype was being run on a dyno at Tesla. Amazing stuff here. A gamer who was banned from the Playstation Network has now found reason to also target MS and Nintendo. The respective individual, is trying to sue MS over the RRoD and Nintendo over a failed system update for the Wii.

<blockquote>
Erik Estavillo, the Resistance: Fall of Man gamer who sued Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) over being banned from the PlayStation Network has targeted the remaining two major console makers in a new lawsuit.

Microsoft Corporation and Nintendo of America are defendants in a federal complaint, which was filed November 18 in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.

Microsoft is being sued for a “red ring of death†affecting the plaintiff’s Xbox 360 console. Estavillo notes that as he is disabled, he cannot afford to pay the “well over $100†fee to fix the console, nor can he afford to purchase a new one. He feels “that Microsoft should have to bear the burden that is now put on the...

Think the guys behind Ratchet are 'milking' the franchise for all its worth? Well the actual developers have hit back and don't seem to think so. They commented people still enjoy the franchise and seven out of their nine titles have achieved an average of 87 on Metacritic.

<blockquote>Maybe we’re living in a bubble but people still enjoy the franchise. We have a very hardcore fan base that is very supportive of the title. The fact is we’ve had seven games that we’ve made, not including the two others that High Impact did, that’s nine titles overall. Of the seven that we’ve done, we’re still at a close to an 87 Metacritic right now. It’s a well regarded franchise. It’s a gamer’s game also I think where, if you are into video games, you’ve been into video games, you appreciate a well-crafted video game, than you know and appreciate what Ratchet’s all about.</blockquote>

MS seems to think it has identified its key weapon against its rivals - Xbox LIVE. They recently bragged that they were the first to understand the power of online and they are the ones to evolve it beyond gaming.

<blockquote>Microsoft has claimed that it is “continually keeping ahead†of its rivals’ online services with additions to Xbox Live.

The firm this week added social media services such as Twitter, Facebook and music portal Last.FM to Live – as well as HD movie streaming service Zune.

However, Facebook arrived on PS3 on Wednesday, as Nintendo launched its own version of the BBC iPlayer on Wii.

“We were the first to really understand the power that an online, live service has and bring it to life for millions of gamers – and now we’re the ones evolving it beyond gaming,†UK Xbox boss Neil Thompson told MCV.</blockquote>
