EA's John Schappert has revealed that from fiscal 2011 EVERY EA game produced will have an online component - consisting of both downloadable content and online play.

<blockquote>IGN quotes Electronic Arts chief operating officer John Schappert during the company's fiscal third quarter investor call as saying, "In fiscal 2011, every one of EA's releases will have an online component, both downloadable content and online play."

Next week will see the launch of Sony's reality TV series called "The Tester" on PSN. However, this is just a small part of Sony's vision as they are aiming for PSN to turn into something like HBO with a variety of 'great original shows'.

<blockquote>Just as HBO has made a name for itself with original content, so too does Sony aspire to make its online PlayStation Network more than just a videogame hub.

Sony will launch its first reality TV series next week, "The Tester," on PSN, with the help of partner 51 Minds Entertainment, a production company that's produced reality shows like "The Surreal Life." The Tester has 11 contestants undergoing various challenges to compete for a position as a game tester at Sony Computer Entertainment America and a $5,000 signing bonus.

PSN's senior director Susan Panico says she wants to see Sony's online gaming network become something like HBO. "I would love for us to get to the point where we're creating great shows in pop culture and...

<blockquote>Video game music scores are to be recognised at the Ivor Novello awards, which hail excellence in music writing.

As games have increased in scale, their soundtracks have progressed from the bleeps and blips of the Pac-Man era.

The London Symphony Orchestra features on a Tomb Raider game, while the Los Angeles Philharmonic stages concerts of music from Final Fantasy and Halo 2. </blockquote>

MS is allegedly busing checking out the potential of Xbox 360's to replace 'similar' hospital equipment such as filters for medial information and in-room display screens.

<blockquote>Microsoft hopes to vamp up its HealthVault and other health services by making it easier for users to do everything from track their caloric intake to count their steps using their cell phones, according to researchers at a Microsoft forum on health care technology in Beijing.

Microsoft researchers are also busy investigating the potential of Xbox 360 units--which are cheaper than similar hospital equipment yet often just as powerful--to feed and filter information from electronic medical records onto in-room display screens for patients and caregivers, according to Desney Tan, a senior researcher at Microsoft Research, who spoke during the forum.</blockquote>

According to reports, Sony is set to roll out a 3D firmware update for the PS3 during the Summer to coincide with the release of its 3D compatible Bravia LCD TV.

<blockquote>PS3 gamers can look forward to tucking into some 3D gaming as Sony confirmed that a 3D-supporting firmware update is on the way for the seventh gen console.

Set to coincide with the launch of Sony's range of Bravia 3D TVs fresh off the CES conveyer belt, John Koller, director of hardware marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, confirmed that PS3 3D gaming would become a reality saying, "3D is a major part of our initiatives in 2010 and we’re currently developing 3D stereoscopic games to come in conjunction with the launch of Sony's 3D compatible BRAVIA LCD TV in summer 2010."

On the arrival of 3D on the PS3 Koller said, "All PS3 units that exist in homes and markets will be able to play 3D stereoscopic games as well as 3D BD movies through separate firmware upgrades."</blockquote>...

EA has confirmed that it is exploring ways in which to stop people quitting from FIFA once they find themselves in a losing situation. The way EA are looking to do this is by rewarding people by COMPLETING matches instead of allowing them to quit and just lose a few points as if they lost without quitting.

<blockquote>EA Canada has said it is working on ways to stop people quitting out of FIFA games online when they find themselves in a losing position.

2010 FIFA World Cup line producer Simon Humber told Eurogamer during a recent hands-on event that the FIFA 11 team was considering rewarding "people for completing matches rather than quitting out".

"It's a complex problem. We do have the five-minute rule: if you find your connection's poor you can drop out within the first five minutes.

"After that there should be a penalty; just in the online world there are complexities that mean by the time the data comes back to our servers, something there means it doesn't award...

Michael Pachter has predicted that Microsoft's motion sensing technology will triumph over that coming to the PS3. And the main reason for this is he forsees that Natal will retail for around $50 while Sony will go for the $100 price-point.

<blockquote>
Both Project Natal and Sony's equivalent system, codenamed Arc, are set to appear in time for the holiday season. "My uninformed opinion is that Microsoft will price relatively low (around $50), and Sony will price higher (around $100), and that suggests that Microsoft will have greater success. If my assumed price points are off the mark, the outcome will be different," the analyst added. Project Natal's price point was previously speculated on when it was alleged that Microsoft's launch plans for the system were leaked...</blockquote>

The Final Fantasy XIII case as shown by GameStop has shown that the game will have DLC. Nothing more to add.

<blockquote>GameStop has posted the back of Final Fantasy XIII's box for the Xbox 360, and it reveals a few interesting details. On the back, it mentions various things, but the one that is most interesting is "Game-content Downloads'.

Recently, in a Dutch Official Playstation Magazine issue there was an interview with game producer Yoshinori Kitase where DLC was mentioned. Kitase stated that due to plans of having a simultaneous release, both Western and Japanese versions of the game would be identical. However, with the Western version taking a little longer than expected, they have prepared "a DLC but it will arrive a little later."</blockquote>

Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward has revealed that a 'care package' has been submitted to Microsoft on Friday. The update aims to fix a variety of glitches on Modern Warfare 2 including the XP glitch.

<blockquote>Still waiting for those glitches and bugs to be killed in your Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2? Well, if all goes to plan you shouldn't be waiting any longer, as Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling reveals that a “care package†was submitted to Microsoft on Friday, and is pending approval.

The reason for the delay appears to be Microsoft's certification process – the PC and PS3 versions have already been patched up and ready to go. It includes fixes that cover glitches for infinite care packages, Emergency Airdrop issues and Sentry Guns problems as well as the XP glitch.</blockquote>

2K Marin believes that console wars are a 'bit silly'. They believe that all the fan boy talk floods the critical channels and drowns out the useful creative feedback.

<blockquote>"From a development perspective, the console wars are a bit silly; our target is consistency, and it’s always kind of sad to see people throwing their energy into “platform partisanshipâ€, because it seems to flood the critical channels and drown out other creative discourse."

This is the sad truth about these system wars. If fanboys think that developers appreciate their flame wars, they're wrong. Arguing about review scores because publication X didn't give game Y a 9.5 does little to promote the merits of the game. It obscures that game's merits and overshadows them with silly controversies and mud-slinging. Fanboys aren't helping the developers and publishers that they so diligently defend. </blockquote>

EA's Peter Moore has claimed that he has definitely seen the PS3 motion control working and claims that it offers a different experience to the Wii's offering.

<blockquote>What do you make of the PS3 Motion Conrol - or 'Arc'. Isn't it just another Wiimote?

I've seen the technology working. I think it's going to be a great complement to what's out there. Sony will put their collective technology and marketing might behind it.

It's a different experience than Wii and we're watching it with great interest. As you might imagine, we're working on stuff - in particular on what sports can bring to it.

One thing we've learnt with the Wii is that we can afford [to spend time on building bespoke games]. The two that stand out in terms of authentic sports motion on Wii are golf and tennis. If you can capture that motion, that brings the game to life in a very unique way. We're looking at how we bring that sports credibility and authenticity to life with Sony's new...
