The banning hammer at Microsoft is working overtime right through the Christmas period! Reports have come forth that they are banning homebrew enabled Xbox 360's over the festive period, which is hardly a surprise considering MS.

<blockquote>It looks like Microsoft started banning homebrew Xbox 360 (running freeBOOT or XBReboot) from Xbox LIVE. This was of course highly expected to happen any time soon.

There are many ways for Microsoft to detect these modifications, no stealth or anything was implemented (nor is there any will from the dev community to do this considering it would even be possible).
Homebrew and Xbox LIVE don't go together, nor should they proba</blockquote>

Datel has released yet another new controller for the PS3, however their latest 'RocketFish' version actually puts the PS3's analog sticks in the same place as an Xbox 360 controller. However, early reviews of the product on BestBuy.com aren't particularly encouraging.

According to the 'Wii Key team', they have donated a considerable sum of money to help re-build a school in Cambodia. Apparently, they are closely monitoring the re-build. While it's a nice touch, one must question the ethics of the raised capital and whether it's all a PR stunt.

<blockquote>To celebrate the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010, we have chosen to donate a sum of money to a charitable project. This doesn't mean sending a quick wire transfer to Unicef, though. The project was independently identified and commissioned by members of the team and the progress, including exactly how the money is being used, is being closely monitored.

If you have purchased a Wiikey product this year, you have helped to make this project a reality!</blockquote>

No surprises here, reports are coming in that Final Fantasy has considerably boosted the sales of the PS3. Similarly, an analysis is warning that the Wii has peaked but the PS3 is still on the 'upswing'.

<blockquote>Final Fantasy XIII, the latest game in the franchise that has sold 92 million copies, has helped boost PlayStation 3 sales in Japan, despite its hefty price tag of 9,240 yen ($103 USD).

"Make no mistake, this should help lift sales of the PlayStation," adds Yusuke Tsunoda, analyst for Tokai Tokyo Securities. "The Wii has peaked out, but PlayStation is still on the upswing." </blockquote>

A prolific thief has been caught thanks to the power of Xbox LIVE. Police managed to obtain a search warrant on the criminal via tracing a stolen Xbox through Xbox LIVE. And it turns out that he stole much more than just an Xbox.

<blockquote>
Note to potential criminals: if you steal an Xbox 360, then play on Live with it, Microsoft will help the local PD track you down. Just ask Bronx-based crim, 22-year-old Jeremiah Gilliam.

LoHud reports Pelham police Detective Rick Deer stating, "We recovered so much, I just didn't know where to start." This follows his team's capture of Gilliam and a hoard of goodies.

The wrongdoer was discovered following "a search warrant obtained by tracing through Microsoft and the Internet provider where an online game was being played with the stolen Xbox."</blockquote>

Thinking of getting a 1600 grams of solid 22 carat gold PS3? Well you're in luck because a UK company is selling three of the bad boys at around $320,000 USD!

<blockquote>The PS3 Supreme (no doubt to be followed soon by the Xbox 360 Supreme, unless someone makes them stop) covers the same gold-plated ground as the previous blinged-up consumer electronics, this time round boasting around 1600 grams of solid 22 carat gold.

In addition to the precious metal, there's also 26 carat's worth of diamonds, all of which took 12 weeks of "unambiguous workmanship", whatever that means, to superglue together.

The upside is that only three PS3 Supremes will be made, with the cost for such an exclusive item coming in at £199,995 and available from www.stuarthughes.com.</blockquote>

Microsoft seem pretty confident that the arguably 'worst' year of the Xbox (this year) will be brushed aside by the performance of the system in 2010. Microsoft said that there is 'no doubt' that 2010 will be a bigger year for Xbox.

<blockquote>Many journalists have concluded that 2009 was not a stellar year for Xbox 360, in fact it has been deemed as the worst since Microsoft launched the console in 2005. Greenberg would not agree that 2009 was the worst, but he reckons 2010 will beat out last year by miles, "no doubt."</blockquote>

IGN has reviewed Bayonetta on the PS3 and while it scored 8.2, there seems to be issues with it in comparison to the 360 version. Apparently the game on the PS3 suffers from slowdon and excessive load times which spoils things quite a bit.

<blockquote>Although Bayonetta has more than a few similarities to Devil May Cry, I believe that this game is worth playing... but it's hard to recommend the PS3 version when the 360 version is so much better. Even when you consider the fantastic combat system, the slowdown and load times really do spoil the fun.

With that said, Bayonetta is still stylish, entertaining and unique. If you have no other choice but to purchase the PS3 version, you'll still get a kick out of it. Just be ready to be exorbitantly patient.</blockquote>

According to reports, a new market research survey adds to the indication that Sony is planning to charge a subscription fee for PSN. This wouldn't be a good Christmas present if it turns out to be real.

<blockquote>Sony may be exploring ways to charge a subscription fee for its PSN network services, according to a recent survey conducted by market research firm IPSOS. Microsoft already charges a monthly subscription for its competing Xbox Live Gold program, and Sony may be looking for additional ways to make the PS3 console profitable. Both Sony's PSN and Microsoft's Live Gold services currently offer multiplayer matchmaking for online games, downloadable demos, player tracking systems and access to communication tools like facebook and twitter.</blockquote>

A developer has gone on record to reveal he feels that Sony's upcoming motion sensing control scheme is by far the better option over Natal. The dev noted that lag on the input and the lack of physical buttons will really prove to be a stumbling block for Microsoft's device.

<blockquote>While praising Project Natal for its cleverness, Burton expressed serious doubt in the peripheral's ability to play a wide range of games. "Lag on the input and lack of physical buttons is really going to restrict the kind of games that can be done with it," he observed.

Microsoft has been pushing Project Natal to developers behind the scenes, hoping to stir up interest in the creation of exclusive titles. Big publishers such as Ubisoft have eagerly come on board, but Burton's scepticism could be worrisome for Microsoft.</blockquote>

A nice little effort here from the football team at Cardiff City. They recently visited the children's hospice for Wales and took a variety of gifts bought from their own money including an Xbox 360.
