Retro Is Cool

Just Imagine Trying To Find Your Way Thru An Huge Website Of Pages, By Blasting Bricks Out Of The Way!

Before Brick Breaker, there was Arkanoid. And before Arkanoid, there was Atari’s Breakout. In all of these games, a ball ricochets around the screen, destroying bricks. Your job is simple: keep that ball bouncing upward, eliminating bricks.

When it comes to Architecture Firms, most of their websites are boring and so normal, that you rather pick up War & Peace and read it non-stop while you on the toilet then browse their website, well when it comes to 'Bjarke Ingels' website, that is not the case at all, because they make it fun to browse thru all their recent projects, past and future, as you knock out bricks just like it was Atari 2600, making it a real joy to see all the amazing projects they are currently involved in, plus their past success's and so on.

Now The World's Most Universal Retro Emulator Makes The Jump Over To Your Web Browser!

If you are a Google Chrome fan, then you will love today's retro news, that finally RetroArch is launching a Web Player version, allowing anyone using a browser to enjoy playing classic golden oldies from video gaming days long gone by, with a simple click!

Sadly, I am loyal FireFox user, so I was not able to check out this amazing RetroArch Web Player to its fullest, but here it is anyway, and we here at MaxConsole would love to hear your experiences with it using Google Chrome, all tho personally I am more in favorite of using hardware emulation FPGA type, or very solid software-versions dedicated to one core console only, it is still nice to see how RetroArch has been expanding and supporting almost every modern day platform out there to allow playing the long forgotten systems.

Sega announces that they a different strategy in dealing with fan remakes, than Nintendo is doing right now!

Recent fan remakes of Metroid 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog have retro gaming fans clamoring for more. Problem is, only one of the two is still available after Nintendo buried the aforementioned Metroid remake and over 500 other fan-remade games.

When it comes to supporting the fans, Sega says go for it, we love the fandom of our characters in your own games that you created, which seems alot better than Nintendo's strategy which recently has been to send you a team of their best lawyers to your door.

Just Imagine, it been 20 whole years since Crash made his first debut on PSX, with his spinning power to take on Sonic!

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Crash Bandicoot, Activision wants to share two videos with our loyal Sony fans here on MaxConsole. Hope you enjoy!

Recently, Crash Bandicoot finally returned to the gaming world, thanks in part to Activision and their Skylanders series of toys, and now the old fellow is no longer a teenager as he just turned 20 years old, and today we have two videos to enjoy showing why after twenty years of being a gaming mascot for Sony fans worldwide, he still has the spin power of young boy wonder.

Those trying to find the app today are unlikely to be successful. The app was indeed pulled from the Store!

Yesterday, we reported on Universal Emulator one of the first game emulators built on the Windows 10 platform. The app let users load ROMs, from Nintendo and Sega, to play on Windows 10 PCs and phones. It even supports the new Bluetooth wireless Xbox One S controller, HoloLens and Microsoft's Continuum for phone.

That didn't take long, when the news story broke yesterday about the NESBOX passing certification for Xbox One, everyone was wondering what was Microsoft or Nintendo going to do, well today we got the answer, as Microsoft pulls the app and tells the world why they did so!

NES, SNES, Mega Drive and GameBoy emulator to be released on Xbox One in a few days!

Universal Emulator, an independent application by developer Nesbox, passed Xbox One certification today. It allows users to play ROMs of NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced titles.

Nintendo might have something to say about this, they been hard-core recently on shutting down anything fan-related, and while this Universal Emulator does not contain any cough (illegal ROM's, actual cartridge backups), it does contain some Fan-Related games written for the old hardware, and it does allow you to Load ROM's via a USB Drive, so there is that grey-line of copyright all over again.

Hidden in Plain Sight, but Not Found by Anyone for over Two Years!

While arcade culture has largely died out in the United States, it’s doing much better over in Japan, and SEGA’s arcades seem to be among the best in the country. Still, despite the attention they receive, for the past two years, the company has been hiding a secret, and despite not putting much effort into obscuring it, it’s only being discovered just now.

Before you read the rest of this weird retro arcade news story, can you figure out what the 'hidden secret' is, by just looking at the above photo, and if you give up after few minutes don't worry, you not alone as because even tho its right there in plain sight, it took over two years before a Arcade gamer visiting the place in Japan, figured out what the whole thing was trying to say to gamers! :)

It's been quite the year for old-school Sega fans

First there was the news that we're getting a brand new 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game in honour of the company mascot's 25th anniversary, and now we have a trailer for a modern day reboot of ToeJam and Earl.

Another successful Kickstarter project looks like its well on its way to rebooting the Sega Legends of ToeJam & Earl, the way we want to be for all those retro lovers of old classics that are remade correctly for usage on today's age of video gaming consoles and PC's.

This is the Xbox Live 'Goldeneye' port that licensing disputes killed.

For a time, the Nintendo 64's Goldeneye 007 was the greatest game in the world, but Rare's shooter hasn't aged gracefully, the two decades since its launch making its controls feel clunky and its graphics look sludgy.

GoldenEye been in the news recently, we had reported on recently, the GoldenEye: Source release, which is rebuilt Valve's Half-Life turned into series of multiplayer 007 action packed maps, and now we have rare leaked gameplay footage of the Xbox 360 HD remaster of Goldeneye 007 that never got to see the light of day, because everyone's lawyers were fighting over licensing terms.

Alot of things have changed since 25 years ago, but we still browsing the web, and still playing games so that is good!

Exactly a quarter of a century ago, Nintendo doubled down on gaming with their American release on the SNES console and on the very same day, August 23, 1991, the Official launch of World Wide Web to the public occurred, so both Video Gamers and Websites, can get a slice of Happy 25th Birthday Cake today!

Today is a double birthday, because both the SNES and WWW was launched, and both changed the world as we now know it, little did Nintendo thought that the SNES would end up being the all-time classic of video gaming, and still be played today, and little did the CERN and W3 Project think their at that time text-only hyperlink protocol of a simple plain web page, would turned into what we have today, now we have multi-core powerful consoles with massive online games that people...
Never Say It Can't Be Done, To A True Hard-Core Gamer/Hacker/Designer, Because They Will End Up Doing It!

Many said it couldn’t be done, yet one enthusiastic retro gaming manufacturer has decided otherwise. Believe it or not but SNK’s timeless Neo Geo platform will soon have its very own flash cartridge - with both the AES home console and MVS arcade system supported.

Finally something is coming along for all those true hard-core Arcade Retro Collectors out there, a nice complete fully working Neo-Geo AES & MVS Multi-Cartridge that is using today's generation of Flash Memory, to make it easy to fill it up with all your ROM backups, no more wasting time burning eeproms and trying to get decade old parts to erase under your UV light just to end up with corrupted bits and the game crashing, now you can have perfectly flashed ROM images of your Neo-Geo games, in simple plug & play format designed...
Developer Andrew Peterson’s HoloLens N3S Alpha Emulator brings Mario into your actual real world!

The Microsoft Hololens is an augmented reality headset that now has access to the likes of Super Mario Bros., and other Nintendo NES titles, thanks to the Xbox app for Windows 10 that can connect Xbox One content to the HoloLens and allow for streaming gameplay.

If you lucky enough to be an Hololens developer (one that spent $3,000) to get your hands on the new augmented reality headset from Microsoft, then you can be like this guy, and enjoy playing classic retro NES games in your living room or office, to the shock and envy of all your friends watching online as Super Mario smashes mushrooms in the real world right in front of your eyes!

Yesterday, we reported on the amazing news that THQ is returning, and now we have news that Jaleco has been bought back from the dead in a new company called 'City Connection' which is named after one of their most famous IPs from their NES era!

The following news story of Jaleco coming back has not been picked up yet by English Gaming Sites, but here is the rough translation of how Jaleco was re-born into 'City Connection' and their current plans like releasing a updated version of Burn! Professional Baseball 2016 for the PlayStation 4 in April 2016.

Score a Power Up for this Mini Retro Console!

As you know, Nintendo's highly anticipated upcoming palm-sized NES replica will only play its built in 30 games. But do you know how it'll play them?

It turns out, the CES Classic being released on 11/11 will have a couple of cool new features for Retro Gamers, including a new '8-Bit Pixel Mode' and 'Game Save States' mode, allowing you for first time on NES games to pause and restart your game.

Fan-made Metroid 2 remake celebrates series’ 30th year before Nintendo does.

Free on Windows with redrawn graphics, slight twists, mechanics from other entries. After ten years in the making, Project AM2R, a fan-made Metroid 2: Return of Samus remake, sees its first release on Metroid’s 30th birthday.

Nintendo must be taking the weekend off, because at this time of posting the news of Project AM2R finally being released after 10 years of being developed right on time for Metroid's 30th Birthday Party, you can still download it, which is record for fan-remake lasting on the 'net before Nintendo comes calling with its C&D takedown notices.

A fake employee may be to blame!

Nintendo has a bit of a reputation for being overprotective of their copyrights. Gaming personalities "Angry" Joe Vargas and Jim Sterling, among others, have had unpleasant run-ins with them. Adult artists have recently suffered copyright strikes against their fan creation. Fan games have popped up and disappeared overnight.

Seems like big 'N' either has rogue ex-employee going power-craze, or someone is pretending to be this former employee and using his past power to issue perfect looking C&D copyright takedowns to the right groups to get videos and other websites removed.

Launched Electronic Games, the first dedicated video games magazine, in 1981

Joyce Katz, a pioneer in the publishing of video games magazines in the 1980s and 1990s, died on Saturday. She was 76. Katz was part of the founding team that brought the first dedicated video games magazine to shelves in 1981.

Very sad news for retro gamers out there, before there was websites and archives, we had to wait each month and browse the newsstand and grab the current month's issue of magazine like 'Electronics Games' from Joyce Katz publishing arm to find out about the latest video games and reviews, and tips on possible walk-thrus and other hints.

The pint-sized, Retro Console Wars are here!

A couple weeks back Nintendo announced that they’d be putting the 31 year-old NES back into production - as a miniaturized console with 30 pre-loaded games, well now Sega has decided to get into new era of pint-size classic retro gaming consoles!

The officially licensed mini-Mega Drive will sport 80 stored games and let you plug in your original cartridges, but its license partner is AtGames which is famous for their previous Atari Flashback series ones which are up to #5, and some are very crappy, and the Sega one will not offer any HDMI upgrade like the NES does, but at least it has a 'cartridge' slot so that might have more usefulness to the retro gamer at heart, depending on the internal hardware and the emulator design they chosen to use in this mini-Sega-Mega-Drive.

No, it's not just a rumor -- it really does exist!

‘Emulation’ - Playboy discusses the world of Retro Gaming and Emulators like Dolphin!

Sex is the one of the most popular things in the world, and believe it or not, Video Games is the second most popular thing in the world, so it makes sense that the Porn Mag Playboy would run a large in-depth News Article about Emulation and the Love of Nintendo.

Playboy off and on, has an love-hate relationship with Nintendo, infact back in the day we discussed it before on MaxConsole, big 'N' themselves even placed ads for their popular video games, even some little porn little shows like Mario and Nude Showers?

So it makes sense now that Retro Gaming is a big time thing, that Playboy would interview the author of Dolphin one of the best Nintendo emulators out there and uncover the dirt behind 'Emulation' and what makes it so much fun me might even forgot about our first love, sex itself!...

At least it does not cost $500 like the Analogue NT we reported on a few days ago, this one be only $59.99 and includes HDMI as well!
