... what a world we live in that somebody actually had to do a study on this matter. Most people would have told you this is the reality of the situation (which applies to all media, e.i. games, movies, music), but it's still nice to see some more scientific backing.

Yeah, MPAA and RIAA along with every other sue happy organization specifically keep their real figures hidden for a reason, because they are worried that everybody will figure out that they are grossly over-exaggerating the effects of piracy!

or how some companies are actually using lawsuits to make money....like most of the porn studios lawsuits. Everybody is going to settle when they have their name attached to a civil (public) lawsuit of John Doe vs Teen Anal Nightmare

Im not sure if anyone remembers matalica making a big ass fuss about pirates. I saw the funniest crap today!. matelica is giving away free old concert mp3`s on their website. LOL The onse who griped about people wanting free music, now give it away just to keep their name relevant.

But they shut down the piratebay, napster, limewire and a ton of other sites and guess what. The music industry still sucks. Because their system is old and primitive and is ment for the record companies not the artist to make money.

it may be obvious to most people, but the more studies that are actually done, the more leverage people have against these companies who say piracy hurts them as bad as it does. when the company claims they lose xxx amount of dollars, and 100 studies say otherwise (compared to their 1) it could make a difference.

The problem is that part of the mass of people are just willingly blind to reason, and regardless what is said or proved they'll simply continue to drink the kool-aid. Still, those that are smart enough just misinformed should turn over a new leaf given enough proof, and really they are the ones that should matter.

Not to mention spreading AIDS, supporting drug cartels and kiddie porn.
