Newly Enabled Windows 10 EFS System, Also Prevents Users From Modding Their Games!
Microsoft announced a while ago, that future Windows 10 Games would start to use EFS (encryption-file-system) on all new App Installs, and Forza Horizon 3 makes the beginning of this new system, which has started already to cause problems, and also upset the Forza modding community.
Forza Horizon 3 is the latest in the very popular series of Forza games, and there has been a great number of amazing mods in the past for the older games, but now the latest version is using the newly enabled EFS system of Windows 10, infact if you don't have EFS enabled on your PC, you will not be able to even download the game, instead getting an Error Core 0x80073CF9 displayed.
Besides of course to prevent 'piracy', the new DRM system seems to have been causing issues with game speed and loading, with alot of users complaining about 'stuttering' when playing Forza Horizon 3, with huge spikes in CPU usage as the decryption process is being handled, and seems to be even worse on those newer PC's using SSD, since more data is being processed at once due to the faster speeds.
And lastly, of course all this DRM encryption system prevents the modding community from coming up with cool new mods for the latest Forza, and with the older Forza's now being delisted from the store, it will not give users much of choose moving forward.
Now, of course we don't see Microsoft changing course on this, and its just the start, the once popular days of modding games on your PC, which could not be possible on consoles due to lockdowns and DRM, have now moved over to the PC world, and it might be a while before 'cracking tools' are developed to get around the EFS and of course once that occurs, we most likely will see online bans.
