George Hotz, Aka Geohot the world famous iPhone hacker has been passing his time recently by creating a custom SPI interface for the PS3 cell processor to remap a region of the hypervisor protected memory. It is assumed that his work has the ultimate goal to run custom code in protected memory witout any form of interference from the hypervisor.

      Read it.

Didn't understand a word of it.

He has a lot of shiny equipment though and seems to know what he's doing.

      Wonder where this will lead......

About time hackers pay sony back for fooling them with crippled linux support that didn't even make it into ps3slim.

Don't get your hopes up. So far he, like everyone else that has attempted/is attempting to hack the ps3 has hit a brick wall.

The PS3 is a secure computing device from the ground up.
I don't think he will find anything useful becuase he doesn't seem to know anything about the PS3's hardware security.
Good Luck i do hope he finds something...

i'd be willing to wager a months sallary that people will still be poking different parts of the ps3 trying to get something useful in 3 years time.

The reason so many public attempts hit the wall is because they were fakes to begin with, most of them coming out of two particular sites.
Look at the top post here for example, im sure everyone remembers him/that.

No high hopes or expectations here, just respect for someone that's spent a long time learning what he's working on.

Maybe old, it was posted in the PS3 forum too but new information has been placed on a blog something eurasia didn't link to.

Well I wish him best of Luck. When there is a will, there is a way. I hope he fixes the tethering with iPhone Touch/3gs soon as well.

Good Luck ol Georgie.. if ya hack the PS3 you will effectively give Sony some major headaches.

Got to give it to the Sony, it's been the longest a console has went without piracy. I think the PS3 will get hacked when PS4 comes out, and Sony will just give all the pirates the iso loader.

I don't know about that the ISO files are just so large.... lol

Besides I am also sure it would involve some sort of mod chip and judging from the security of the PS3 its going to be some monster 30-40 wire job that would make chipping the thing a major pain in the ass.

I am also pretty sure that any sort of mod chip would have to be upgradeable from a ISO or USB. Since Sony could just release some firmware update. Nintendo makes it enough of a pain and the security on that thing was not very good from what I have heard.

It would be expensive to mod PS3's the chip would be expensive and hard to install then you have the Media if you can't load games from the HDD then you have to use BD disks or stick to only DVD or DVD sized games (some games could probably be down sampled and hacked to fit a DVD DL disk)

Not saying its impossible just very hard to do and very expensive too.

Now if some one could crack it like they did the PSP firmware and create a loader for the HDD, that would be the route people would go.

At that point if some one would make a PS2 game loader I would like that a lot since I could just load up all my PS2 games JukeBox style lol (I have heard its possible using my swap magic disk but I am lazy and the hard drive is only 20GB's in mine so I couldn't really put very many of my games on it)

the 360 would have held out this long if it wasn't for the stupidity of microsoft to design the 360 with a standard dvd player. That was a very naive move by MS.

      I agree 100%.........

It will be the end of the PS3, as all developers will stop making games for it, and all go over to the XBOX360, thus making Micro$oft the instant winners in this next gen clash.
