    'Scalable multimedia computer system'

A recently filed Microsoft patent called 'Scalable multimedia computer system' could provide several hints about the Xbox 720...

A relatively recent Microsoft patent application from December 2010 -but published last month-, suggests that they could be considering the notion of console hardware that "can be customised and upgraded over time".

It specifically refers to a "scalable multimedia computer system architecture", and could give us a glimpse on what Microsoft could be planning...

Here are some of its key points:

    - Shared and Scalable computing resources:

    - A Kinect-like system is also covered:

The principle inventor behind thie patent application, Jeff Andrews, is one of the chief hardware architects at Microsoft.

Keep in mind this is just a patent and that its over 18 months old.

However, the fact this comes from leading Xbox engineers and has much in common with the '720' leak gives it extra-special levels of interest.

You can check out the full filed Application HERE!

Up-gradable xbox 720 components... now this I absolutely don't like.

MS is going to force people to buy overpriced crap.... just so what... you can play the latest games......

Sorry but this idea is a major fail. Destroys one of the major benefits of a console. Not having to upgrade.

With XBOX 360 in 2005 you knew that you won't have to upgrade anything until the next console is released.

Is Gears of War 3 any less enjoyable because its running on the same hardware as Gears of War 1???? No.

Will an up-gradable xbox give developers the incentive to squeeze out every last bit of graphical power out of the console??? NO. They will just develop games for the upgraded components by default.

I can see it now..... thousands of children crying because their parents bought them Halo 6 for Christmas.... but they didn't know they had to upgrade the components inside the XBOX 720 to play the game.

Then all upset and unwilling to buy the ridiculously overpriced hardware upgrades.... the parents will be return them to the stores.

how would you return a f2p game to the store and more importantly what kind of a cheapskete would "buy" a f2p game for a present? (remember that ms are now jumping on the f2p bandwaggon)

hard to ignore if the system is based on f2p where you pay a live gold sub to play online then more and more as each game is f2p, it was discussed as a model for the next xbox and just look at everyone piling money into that android console kickstarter that says in its faq its going to be entirely based of f2p. tie that in with the recent eu ruling that consumers have the same rights to sell what they have paid for no matter if its retail or digital and suddenly you can see all the greedy scum suddenly jumping on f2p as the only way they can continue to rape their customers and devalue anything they buy now their online passes, dlc and ransomware are all effectively illegal until they allow people to sell them onwards like their physical games, of course f2p also serves 2wo other important factors on the greedy scum scale, 1) it pushes almost everything digital only 2) it destroys the retail model thus getting rid of pre owned sales altogether.
